Contrary to recent reports, this truly unique bike is still for sale, and a snip at £43,000! Yep, the number one Ducati 916SPS Foggy Replica has failed to sell and is now being punted on eBay. So what have we got here? The Foggy rep was created in 1998 to basically allow Ducati to, ah, work the rules in its favour in World Superbikes.
Never ridden, one careful owner, etc
Ducati needed to increase the size of the 916's airbox to make it faster in World Superbike racing, the only catch was that to do this it had to alter the frame. This would require the bike being re-homologated and so to get around the rule Ducati made a limited run of 200 'Foggy Reps' to qualify the new frame. And here we have the first off the production line.
This bike has never turned a wheel and isn't even road registered, making it truly unique. And possibly the world's largest paperweight. According to the seller, Dave Whitaker, the bike has attracted loads of attention, but no firm offer as yet. He also said he was "prepared to listen to offers" over the price.
To sweeten the deal the new owner will be presented with his acquisition by a certain Mr Carl Fogarty who, having sold his own Foggy Rep last year (number two) for nearly £28K, will probably be a bit miffed if it makes the full asking price. So be nice.
Even Fogarty had to settle for #2
