Porsche 911 ‘GT2 RS’ Evocation, 1990, 61.4k miles - sold for £80,400

Everyone has their own idea of what the holy grail Porsche 911 is. For some, it’ll be an original S/T or the pumped-up RSR, while others yearn for the latest and greatest from the boffins at Weissach. But there’s a good chance most will have an original 993 GT on their list. The homologation special, built to allow Porsche entry into GT2 racing, used the 3.6-litre engine from the Turbo, albeit without the all-wheel drive system and an aero kit closely tied to the racer. Just 57 road-going examples were built, which is one of the reasons why they typically change hands for seven figures these days.

That makes properly executed evocations like this one the only realistic way for most enthusiasts to experience Porsche’s legendary homologation special for themselves. Funnily enough, this example started life as a 964 Carrera 4, and was transformed into ‘GT2 RS’ spec with the bolt-on wide body kit, that towering rear wing and a fully stripped out interior. The engine build, meanwhile, was handled by Ninemeister to the tune of 350hp, and it’s said that the whole thing was cobbled together using Porsche parts. It was a prime candidate for an auction, because how do you value something as bonkers as this? Well, after 50 bids, this GT2 Evocation changed hands for £80,400 including fees - a darn sight cheaper than the real thing, and still netting a great return for the seller.

Ferrari F430 Spider, 2005, 41.3k miles - sold for £60,032*

It’s very difficult to talk about a Ferrari V8 without spewing up a bunch of cliches. The noise, the drama, the passion, etcetera. But the firm really did know how to make eight cylinders absolutely sing, especially those made before emissions and noise laws forced it down the turbocharging route. The F430 may not have been the last of the naturally aspirated V8 line, but it wasn’t far off. Developing 490hp at a screaming 8,500rpm, the F136 E in the middle of the F430 was a very special thing indeed and reminds everyone who comes within earshot what one of the all-time great exhaust notes sounds like.

Now, the great thing about the Spider is that it gets you even closer to that epic howl while also soaking up the sun when the weather allows it. This 2005 car has been nicely specced, too, finished in Nero Daytona over Nero leather, which is ideal for those who fancy something different to the well-trodden Rosso Corsa path. As you might expect, this one found no issues attracting bidders and ultimately sold for £60,032 including the buyer’s fee. Who says you can’t sell a drop top in the winter, anyway?

Lotus Exige (S2) Premium Race, 2004, 36.1k miles - sold for £26,200*

There are faster, more powerful Exiges out there, but the S2 is arguably the ultimate expression of Lotus. Light and simple with modest power, all combined to produce one of the most thrilling and engaging cars ever conceived. Obviously, that makes them a buyer magnet here on PH, so even when the weather outside is miserable and the roads slick with dead leaves like it is now, someone somewhere is looking for the dream Series 2.

For the winner of this auction, that S2 comes with both the Premium and Race package, meaning a mix of creature comforts like air con plus track-ready features such as four-point harnesses and twin-oil coolers. This one also comes with a few Cup upgrades like two-way adjustable Ohlins dampers. It might just be all the Lotus Exige you could ever need, but, alas, it’s already found a new home, with the hammer falling at £26,200 including fees. However, that does leave an Exige-shaped hole on the auctions page, so if you were thinking about moving yours on, now’s the time.
