Nathan Kinch and Andrew Kirkaldy sealed pole position for both races in the British GT Championship at Silverstone this morning. The dailysportscar.com pole honours were shared by Gavan Kershaw in his Lotus Elise and Ni Amorim in the DRM Ferrari.
Godfrey Jones had dominated the early part of the first session and looked to have pole in the bag. However, a flurry of late laps moved him down the order to seventh. Mike Jordan put in a late charge and took the top spot in the dying minutes. Kinch was still out on circuit and on his final lap managed to snatch the place as he took the chequered flag.

“It was the only lap I got that was clear of traffic,” said Kinch. “It was a fantastic lap and the car is very good around here. It suits the track and hopefully we should be in for a good weekend.”

Jordan
was initially unaware that he had been demoted to second place, but will start ahead of Neil Cunningham in the Embassy Corvette. The New Zealander snatched the place away from Chris Niarchos in the second Scuderia Ecosse Ferrari in the closing stages of the session.

Jonathan Cocker will line-up in fifth place just ahead of the Eclipse Motorsport TVR T400R of Steve Hyde. The Eclipse team won the British Empire Trophy at the circuit last year and after winning a round last time out at

In the second session Kirkaldy dominated right from the moment the green light was shown at the end of the pit-lane. The Ferrari ended up being over two seconds clear of the sister car, driven by Tim Mullen.

“I’m surprised to get the time to be honest,” said Kirkaldy. “The car seems to be very good around here this weekend though, but we have to make up enough time to cover our pit-stop handicap, so it will be hard work tomorrow.”

Tim Sugden looked to be starting alongside Kirkaldy on the front row, but Mullen put in a very late lap to demote the GruppeM Porsche 911 GT3-RSR to third place.

Nigel Greensall put the RSR TVR T400R on the front row early in the session, but had to settle for fourth place at the end of the session, just ahead of the Eclipse car of Piers Johnson.

Mark Sumpter had traded times with the TVR during the session and made a last lap effort to make a place back. However, his time was still just six hundredths of a second outside the round nine winners.

Peter Le Bas managed to move the Xero Corvette further up the NGT field in the closing stages of the session. The yellow machine had been hovering just above the Cup Class cars on the timing screens, but a clear lap at the end moved it up to seventh.

Ni Amorim left it until the closing second of the session to take pole in the Cup Class. The DRM car just managed to beat Nick Adams to take the place with Michael Caine managing to take third despite pulling off the circuit at the end of the session with mechanical problems.

Adam Sharpe put the Tech 9 Porsche into fourth place ahead of Martin Short in the Rollcentre Noble M12GTO3R, which had been struggling with an engine mis-fire in the first half of the session.
