Do you remember the 2005 Le Mans Endurance Series? It would be understandable if you didn't, but it's the last time a factory TVR team competed in a sportscar championship. 13 years later though, and TVR is back in the upper echelons of motorsport, as automotive partner for Rebellion Racing's LMP1 efforts.
Sadly that means any dreams of a glorious GT3 campaign, using the new Griffith to take on the best that Porsche, AMG, Audi, Aston and Bentley have to offer, will remain unfulfilled. Still, TVR says that what's learnt via the association with Rebellion "will flow directly into the development and production both of its road car line up, and into its future racing projects." So maybe there's hope yet...
For now TVR will partner Rebellion and its Oreca R-13 in the 2018-19 World Endurance Championship Super Season. The Super Season is a new format for WEC, now lasting nearly 14 months from May this year to June next, with two visits to both Spa and Le Mans plus a return for Sebring.
TVR Chairman Les Edgar reiterated the brand's desire to return to the race track, adding: "We have a long-standing relationship with Rebellion Racing and have been following them closely in WEC over the last few years. We greatly look forward to working with the team and are confident that Rebellion Racing TVR will see much success during the Super Season."
That season kicks off at Spa next month, which means we're not far off seeing the TVR badge back on the world's greatest circuits. Will you be watching?
Unsurprisingly PHers are discussing TVR's LMP1 collaboration in the forum already - join the chat here.
