Remember Ferrari’s 70th anniversary? What a jamboree that was, with a new logo for the LaFerrari Apertas that were being made, and 350 special cars to mark the 2017 milestone. That was 350 unique cars, too, with the entire five-model line-up at the time - 488 GTB, 488 Spider, F12 berlinetta, GTC4 Lusso and California T - each treated to one of 70 historic Ferrari liveries. There were some truly spectacular cars created as a result - see this GTC4 Lusso as proof - and nobody would forget 2017 as the 70th year of Ferrari as a road car manufacturer.
Things were a little different in 2007, when six decades were being celebrated. There wasn’t a wild new hypercar, or an extreme new derivative as was created for Ferrari North America’s 60th - the F60 America. There was the 430 Scuderia, memorably, and Kimi won Ferrari’s most recent F1 championship, but birthday celebrations were conspicuously muted.
As far as we can tell, the 612 Sessanta - that’s 60 in Italian - was Ferrari’s big birthday present to itself in 2007. The big four-seat V12 was treated to two-tone paint, a quilted leather interior, larger-than-standard forged wheels and an electrochromic glass roof. All 60 were offered (and, presumably, taken) by loyal Ferrari customers, and that was kind of that for the 60th. There were 70 classic liveries to think of after that…
Just five dozen cars for the entire planet makes any Sessanta rare, but this one is remarkable as a right-hand drive example. It would be no surprise to find that this was the only UK car given the other RHD markets globally and four ever made. In Russo Mugello with Nero Pastello - just be glad it’s not dark blue and ivory with chocolate leather - it’s covered just 2,500 miles with one owner since first being registered in March 2008.
As such, it’s pretty much like new, from the Sessanta badges to the quilted leather and steering wheel to luggage set. It’d be a surprise to find anyone has sat in the three seats other than the driver’s chair - it really is an immaculate 612. Being sold with a full Ferrari history and what’s described as a ‘full recommissioning service’, the Sessanta is surely as good a 612 as can now be found, with its 20th anniversary looming.
Which means, obviously, this isn’t one of those 612s that linger temptingly around £50k. This one is for sale at £219,500, which is twice that of any other Scaglietti on PH. But think of it the other way: the Sessanta is a right-hand drive version of a 60-run limited edition Ferrari. As a mid-engined model or a more famous V12, it’d be millions, surely. And this is hardly a controversial paint scheme, really, when the 70th anniversary cars are considered. One for the Ferrari connoisseur, perhaps, with space in the garage and all the four-seat V12s already covered off. And it won’t be long until we’re thinking about eight decades of Ferrari road cars - expect something a little more dramatic than two-tone paint come 2027…
