1968 Triumph TR5

The TR5 is regarded as the pinnacle of the Triumph TR range, retaining the sleek Italian lines of the Michelotti designed TR4 and TR4A predecessor, but with the more powerful 2500cc straight six fuel injected 150bhp engine of the successor TR6. The model was only manufactured for one year, starting in July 1967 and ceasing ahead of TR6 production which commenced in September 1968. The short production run provides rarity whilst the rounded good looks and extra performance add exclusivity.

Our car was registered in February 1968 and presents in great condition. It is fitted with the removable surrey hard top with canvas hood and overdrive on 2nd, 3rd and 4th gears. Finished in striking red with black leather upholstery and chrome wire wheels it looks the epitome of a classic British sports car.

The car is accompanied by a full file of invoices and photographs of maintenance and restoration work. It appears that the car originally received restorative work in the late 1980s, including the colour change to red. It was then purchased by the next owner (from whom we acquired the car) in 1996. He stored the car for several years before commissioning a detailed report followed by significant restoration work over the period from 2016 to 2020. We have copies of all invoices from the respected specialist plus detailed photographic evidence. This included replacement panels, new wheels and another full body respray. The extent of the work undertaken is demonstrated by the costs which amounted to almost £38,000. Since this work was completed the car has been professionally stored and received light use.

Prior to delivery the TR5 will go through our workshop for full retail preparation and receive an oil and filter service ready for some open top summer motoring.
