This phrase, which I find amusing and excruciating in equal measures, has been popping up with ever increasing frequency lately. Does anybody know who coined it and when? What is the correct quoting as coined as I'm sure most people (including me) have it wrong?

I beleive that Bing Crosby actually holds the copyright and every time it is used 23p goes to his estate.

It is

He's got two hopes....and one of them is Bob!

The rest doesn't need explaining! It is for the mildly intelligent to understand. And if not....followed by "Get it?" "You wouldn't get it if a large letter came through the post with the word IT on it for you!"

What about:

Chicago Hope
Faith, Hope and Charity
Cape of Good Hope
Land of Hope and Glory?

I believe the equally feeble original was along the lines of
Two hopes. Slim and none. And Slim just left town.

Either works.....but the main thing is you haven't explained what the other one is....you've actually left it for the other person to work out! As opposed to the dumb down culture we are becoming...that punchlines need to be spoon fed to us! And with pictures where possible wink

I first heard this back in the 80's by my older brother, I think we had some argument and I suggested to him that i was going to kick his ass to which the reply came back
"you've got two hopes, Bob Hope and no hope"
