I really fancy a BMW E34, can anyone give me an overview and advice?
They also seem extremely thin on the ground, so if anyone spots a nice one for sale.
I have a 535i and I love it, I got it super cheap three years ago, it’s a bit tatty but reliable. It’s really good to work on if that‘s important to you, spacious engine bay and cheap mechanical parts. Buy the Bentley manual! It’s the only one I’ve driven though so below is more hearsay than direct experience. They also seem extremely thin on the ground, so if anyone spots a nice one for sale.
The sweet spot is probably the later 525i with the M50 (189bhp), in terms of purchase cost (likely in thread) and availability. The 520i and early 525i are probably a little weedy, and the higher spec ones (540i and especially M5) are rare enough that sellers overprice them, and nobody buys them.
It’ll probably need welding on sills (especially if it has a sunroof, mine does) and new arches (mine does) so budget for that.
Plenty of saloons around fb marketplace or will come up on eBay with patience, I’d love a touring as well for myself but there’s a premium for them and according to my wife, a kitchen was a more important use of

If that were a 3/4 series tin top convertible with an auto box, then I would be on the train tomorrow.macron said:

If i was in the market i’d buy the best LS460/600h i could find for £10k and then laugh at everyone else on the road.
I've already had an LS460. Sounds weird but I didn't find the seats very comfortable. The XJ seats were so much better.I’ve had two ‘211’s consecutively and can definitely recommend one of them if that’s any help!

I quite like that, for some reason I could see Lovejoy (should he ever grace our screens again) tooling about in it.Crook said:

I don’t think Ian McShane is with us any more, and the lure of Hollywood took him away from light hearted roguish antique dealer types. His sidekick Tink also passed I recall.
Magnum PI probably had short apparel - probably red to go w the ‘rari !

Me, I think he would choose thread’s favourite L322. Perhaps a 5 touring (Alpina?), or less practical a 6 series convertible or XK (coupe more than rag top). Did he knock about in the typical antique dealers Volvo, or what would be perfect would be the XM estate from earlier.Rayny said:

He used to use the love interest’s Moggie soft top I think. Hence me suggesting the 1 series as it was a very unlikely and so completely likely choice.AlexNJ89 said:
I'm on the lookout for a practical daily, I like things that are unique and aren't just German PCP fodder.
Something like an Alfa Romeo Stelvio, Volvo XC60 or F-Pace at around the £20k mark.
At £20k I'd want a warranty with replacement car if of the road, if it was an F-Pace, my "The Man" has had a lovely F-Pace on site for 3 months looking for a steering rack, he was deeply unhappy when he went on a 350 mile wild goose chase for a rack that was sold as he was travelling to go get it.Something like an Alfa Romeo Stelvio, Volvo XC60 or F-Pace at around the £20k mark.

Avoid F Paces unless you buy the V6 petrol. If you insist on buying an F Pace diesel, it has to be the V6.
Not to you specifically, just because you mentioned F Paces.
