Any else find this being Sky's top headline beyond amusing?

https://news.sky.com/story/eurovision-2024-latest-...

It's a bunch of prima donna's shouting badly into a microphone.

How is that chaos and how on Earth is it given such priority?

A distract the masses type thing, maybe.

It's top news on most outlets, it is every year. This year there is some controversy so even more in the limelight. All the other top news stories are still there.

It is every year and always has been, Eurovision is huge. I personally can't stand it but appreciate a lot of people do.

This is true. And it's much bigger in many other participating countries than it is in the UK.

It's fascinates me that a bunch of LGBT+ who would be beaten to death in Gaza are protesting about Israel, the only country in the region that has no problem with LGBT+.

And a guy with a very Jewish name has been dropped because of his support for Hamas.

Apparently one participant was crying because Isreal qualified.

It'd be more entertaining if they swapped the microphone for a pair of gloves.

I find the whole thing bizarre and not interesting in the slightest.

Other members of my family have Eurovision parties.

Fair do's.

It is so hard to follow topics on PH not only because they get older but there are so many categories

In theory the two should be separate as on here it is the politics that should be discussed (have I spelt this right?) and on the TV thread the entertainment

The only reason it used to be relevant in the UK from what I remember was because Wogan used to mercilessly take the piss and he was genuinely funny.

Not sure if the guy that replaced him went for the same theme.

I did have a quick scan for a running thread but couldn't find one and yes this is more about the rather ridiculously serious stance the media take on some bizarre singing ritual.

Nil point for my search efforts.

Eurovision has been increasingly politically charged since 2016.

It's supposed to be a fun music show, not an activists convention to settle scores.

Actually, anyone want to re-heat the Sweden thread:

No different to the football being news is guess. Neither interest me, but others are.

Why do you find this odd?

It's always been political! Scoring has always been a joke but it adds to the fun and you shouldn't really take it that seriously.

It's a bit of fun and having some 'divas' losing their st in Sweden just adds to the hilarity.

I dont see there's a problem with gay people not wanting bombs to be dropped on any country whatever their culture. Are LBGT rights more important than bombing?

So why are they making Israel out to be the bad guys?

Hamas invaded Israel on Oct 7th last year and slaughtered innocent citizens. Prior to Oct 7th they'd fired 2500 rockets into Israel.

If they hadn't poked the tiger, it wouldn't be a problem.
