That's where I am pretty much, I'm not watching this year due to the boycott but I don't have any ill will towards any performer. It is (in principle) an apolitical event.
Your not watching it in solidarity with Hamas who hate gays and women daring to wear make up and skirts.... go team woke!
What does woke mean?

Anything the poster doesn’t like.

I think beetroots are woke. And they are sort of red. Leftist food.

Oooh dear!

Looks like The Netherlands' entrant (which for the record I think their song and performance is a bag of ste) decided to take the protest on stage.

Eurovision 'incident' prevents Dutch rehearsal.

It means that you are aware, awoken to other peoples differences and struggles and lives, or at least it should mean that, but sadly it largely means that someone will twist themselves in knots like waving around Palestinian flags with people shouting from the river to the sea and supporting Hamas who kill homosexuals, how can anyone stand behind that, and claim to be 'woke'.
Yes no one wants to see kids from any country dying (apart from many Middle east countries so long as the kids are westerners), but waving around flags and slogan's from Hamas, outside a hugely vibrant and welcoming music event?!
Utter mentalists...
But of course, the same rules don't apply to the middle east as we are meant to be held to a higher standard, which is actually the true definition of 'racist', to think 'we' are morally and intellectually superior... that is racism and its the far left doing it...
Why should the middle eastern countries get a free pass to hate gays and stop women living normal lives and having slaves? Why do we tolerate that? Why aren't we more vocal in calling it out? We need the Oil? We need the investments? Why?

Based on the internet the far right say I'm a libtard and the far left tell me I'm a racist bigot, so from that i judge that my views are about right.

There's a certain irony in the fact that the last time a Eurovision entrant received death threats for participating they were Israeli too, and it was because she was a transexual!

Hopefully the Dutch tt gets withdrawn from the show and the standard €40,000 fine imposed for breaching Eurovision's strict apolitical rules.

Anyhoo - back to the music....

Germany to win for me, great song and really well performed, Ukraine's song is very strong as is dare i say it, Israel's song.
Lithuania is strong, Greece has a 37 year old woman who is hot as hell, but yes Switzerland is extremely well performed and up there with Sam Ryder as the perfectly crafted pop song.
I look forward to a few hours of utter joy in the face of a toxic world thinking of the miserable sts who will never understand how ste their world is with no colour in it.

Back to the music...

Top three songs for me at the moment are Switzerland, Latvia and Israel.

Likely winner? Switzerland or Croatia (any Eurovision song that includes the lyrics "I'm going away and I sold my cow" deserves success), but Ukraine's entry is very strong and I wouldn't discount Sweden. France and Germany could do surprisingly well, too (although Germany's entry has an unfortunate James Newman vibe about it).

As for the UK, I reckon we deserve to end up on the left side of the scoreboard. It's a decent catchy effort.

It's a shame that so many cinemas, bars and pubs are opting to not do their normal eurovision events (or even opening) for the finals that many people enjoy for fear of a nasty crowd ruining it.

I will be surprised if the whole event goes smoothly. I can see other acts making a protest as well and the crowd being very hostile.

Exactly thumbup

Folks, a polite notice, this is the Eurovision thread to discuss the music. This is not N,P and E. So if you want to make political statements or commentary then go elsewhere, as those posts will not be entertained on this thread. The last thing I want during the show is to be scrolling through political drivel.

So please keep it focused on the music please. As I say, a very low tolerant but polite notice smile

I agree, however I suspect live events on the TV later will dictate otherwise. Which will be a shame.

It's a long way from ripping a skirt off and making your mind up. And not in a good way.

We always watch Eurovision on the night only so all the songs are new to us and we form our opinion on a single hearing,

It's going to be extremely difficult this year with Rylan commentating; what is the alternative?

Radio 2 for sound with Richie Anderson? Not sure if that's an improvement or not!

You do have Scott Mills to tone down Rylan though, babes. laugh

I actually quite like Rylan but I'm more used to him when he's on podcasts and stuff where he's gloves off and completely himself, in that environment he's a right laugh!

Got a bit political over Israeli entry. Was banned from the dress rehearsal last night where the country "experts' vote. They played a replay of one of his practice runs instead.

You're in luck, Scott and Rylan only do the TV commentary for the semis (insert your own jokes here).

According to the BBC: "Graham Norton split his time between the main stage and the commentary box in 2023 but he's live with you on BBC One and BBC iPlayer for the whole show this year as your UK commentator for the Eurovision 2024 Grand Final.

"Over on BBC Radio 2 and BBC Sounds, Scott Mills and Rylan will be leading the commentary on the airwaves."

I don't mind Scott and Rylan, but I can see how they might be an acquired taste.
