Just because it doesn't show on the MID or whatever its called now doesn't mean there is no insurance.

Take a copy of your insurance certicate with you and you'll be fine.
Thats an idea....its still in my old cars registration so will prove my insurance is with them even tho the reg is wrong.

Thanks
????

Why do you think that providing an insurance certificate for a different car proves that the car you are driving is insured?

Can’t believe people are being reeled in this easily.

Yep - fair point. And I hope you're right - the alternative seems worse!

I wonder if the OP has determined whether his insurance is pucker (sic) yet?

ETA just checked out the other topics started by the OP as one poster on the thread suggested. I have to say that I am very grateful to the OP for the amount of entertainment he (or she) has provided to us biggrin

It’s not rocket science to check you’re insured.

If you're concerned about not being insured, yet you have spoken to the insurance company, arranged cover and paid a premium, then received documents via email or a portal into which you can log in to with a 4 digit PIN number, then asking MID won't do much to allay your fears.

I have been stopped in my classic by the Police as I pinged the ANPR. I was asked a few questions, then asked whom my Insurer was (Markerstudy via A Plan Chelmsford) The Policeman made a call, confirmed the car was covered and let me on my way after a chat about the car. This was on a Sunday morning heading to a Car meet.

Basically I'd insured it on the Friday and the database hadn't updated. Remember all the calls are recorded for a reason and it can work both ways, which is why I always ask "So there's no break in cover?" once it's all done and dusted.

askmid didn't update my Dad's insurance for well over a week last year.

Its been an epic cock up. The MIB are now accepting that they will need to pay financial compensation to people whose vehicles have been seized erroneously.

About 96% of the data uploaded to the MIB during the outage has been uploaded and they expect this to rise to 99% tomorrow. However, third party submission handlers have effectively had to hold on to millions of records and are only now beginning to tackle the backlog. Even then, the user interface provided by MIB is not working fully so they are struggling to monitor what is being uploaded.

I nearly took out a policy with Markerstudy. Until I checked out their reviews. I went elsewhere in the end....

Yes, good point and I should have added that. I also binned markerstudy once the policy ended and went with Footman James, that was on the strength of a topic posted on the forum in the classic section iirc. Not a brilliant company to do dealings with it appears. They've also merged with another company recently.

...and it is not definitive. Only your insurance documents are. HTH.
Not really, because police don't see the documents as definitive in their own right, and have seized a vehicle because their records show it to be uninsured, despite the driver have valid documents in hand. "Ya cancelled it, didn't ya?!".

If you drive at times when your insurance company can't be contacted by phone, checking that the database has been updated correctly is important.

I mean they are definitive in that once issued the police can use the reference numbers, etc to validate.

They're now saying it will be finished on the 17th (after saying it would be done by last weekend).

The good news is the police will be well aware of what's going, it is affecting millions of policies. As a trader, I can not see my covered vehicles, and cannot add/remove them. Bit of a nightmare.

I think the bigger concern is the demi-Walts who go around checking on others peoples VED/MOT and insurance status. They must be apopletic with rage. biggrin

Unfortunately, there are loads of third party senders (MDS, as an example) who are working round the clock to push their updates into the system. This is causing bottlenecks. Even the MIB web site appears to be down this afternoon!

Seems to be back now but only half working. One of my vehicles shows up ok but the other shows "Invalid vehicle registration number. Please check and try again. Please note: This service doesn't work for foreign vehicle registration numbers." despite being insured and appearing ok on the DVLA check service.
