Not a "classic" but a rant about the Mrs.
Come home from work, it's 20 degrees outside, clear and sunny with a gentle breeze, the tumble drier is on! I get in and make a sarcastic statement "it's lovely evening, 20 degrees with a gentle breeze and the drier is on!"
She's been out all day on a first aid course, got back an hour ago put the bedding in the wash before she went out this morning, she wanted to make sure it was dry before we went out this evening, I told her it would have been more than dry in that hour on the line!
It drives me mad, it's not that we can't afford it, we can, I just hate paying for something when we don't have to and it especially drives me mad as a) she every so often harks on about doing the right thing "for the environment" and b) we have friends who genuinely struggle with money and affording day to day things and there's her being so bloody wasteful.

We moved to a bigger house, big enough for me, my wife, her daughter, husband and their kids aged 4 & 1.
Daughter said, “I’m getting a tumble drier”. I said “then you are paying the electricity bills”. She didn’t get a tumble drier. We have two washing lines and plenty of radiators. And they don’t understand saving power.
This was their part of the house one January evening…..
It wouldn’t be so bad, but they were all in the downstairs right hand room watching TV

Much more environmentally friendly though, and I have rented houses in Spain where there was no dryer. I'm not sure which made me chuckle more; you thinking hanging washing out is council or you knowing all your friends washing drying techniques

She says nearly all the mold issues are because of drying clothes indoors on radiators and clothes racks with all the windows shut. Constantly lecturing people about ventilation.
Points out that houses next door don’t have the problem - hang their laundry outside.
Nope, must be because their house has damp. Has people tell her that they never dry clothes on radiator must be a damp house: whilst stood in front on clothes drying on a radiator.
No idea how she does that job.

My daughter had had a tumble dryer, but had always run it in a small shed outside to avoid condensation in the house.
Not so her tenant (who had three kids under 10), and who was too lazy to walk outside with the washing, so had it in the dining room in the middle of the house.
Her tenant complained about mould in the house, just like above.
She swore blind she wasn't running it unventilated, so I paid her an unannounced visit from 150 miles away.
Bloody thing was running in the corner of the room, and all windows were shut.
The outlet hose from the tumble dryer wasn't even connected to the machine.
Mrs 5 has some form of angine, despite being an otherwise ffit and healthy 49 year old.
She occasionally gets a bit of 'chest squeezing' from it but it goes away after a while.
However on Saturday evening it lasted longer and became more painful than usual so she phoned NHS 24 who organised a visit from the paramedics (which thankfully didn't result in a free trip to A&E).
On the conclusion of the call to NHS 24 her greatest concern wasn't the ongoing pain in her chest but, obviously, that the house was untidy (it wasn't) and what would the paramedics think!

However on Saturday evening it lasted longer and became more painful than usual so she phoned NHS 24 who organised a visit from the paramedics (which thankfully didn't result in a free trip to A&E).
On the conclusion of the call to NHS 24 her greatest concern wasn't the ongoing pain in her chest but, obviously, that the house was untidy (it wasn't) and what would the paramedics think!

I must admit that we use the tumble dryer all the time, regardless of the weather. Hanging stuff on the line is just added faff. It's an already tedious chore. It would be better if she got taken to a&e and did a bit more investigation. Maybe? She occasionally gets a bit of 'chest squeezing' from it but it goes away after a while.
