What's the betting we see an uptick in "woman killed by bear" stories in future years after they went to stroke the bloody things because a stupid, divisive, st-stirring Internet meme told them it was safer than that bloke sat opposite them on the bus?

I don't think that will happen as most women are capable of seeing it for what it is and aren't taking it quite so literally At that point, who knows? Most of the women likely to come into contact with a potentially lethal wild bear are Americans, and they've voted for Trump and Biden consecutively!
I just asked my wife now that she's up and I'm back from walking the dog.
She'd not seen this online at all. Her immediate response was "the strange man of course. Surely nobody said the bear?".
When asked why, her answer was "of course bears hurt fewer women. There are hardly any bears, and most of them live in forests in the arse end of nowhere!"
I'm glad my wife gets statistics and doesn't hate men.

There’s a lot of stupid men, I cannot believe how many get the statistics of how dangerous bears are. Koala bears are fine, pretty much all European bears run away from people, black bears normally run and so on. Men are so bad at evaluating risk, lol.
A lot of men on here are saying women are being stupid because of not evaluating risk properly. But they’re also missing that they are evaluating the risk to a women badly too. A huge number of women have had issues with men, such as in night clubs grabbing their ass and so on. They need to adapt their behavior because of the risk to them from men - not all men, but because a significant enough numbers of them are a problem.
To put it in PH terms, do you hate all drivers because some drive like idiots and you have to drive assuming you might meet one? No, but you still adapt your behavior to deal with the risk. That is what women are saying, not that they hate men or think we’re all rapists.

A f*cking ridiculous question, answered overwhelmingly dishonestly. In an actual, real life ‘man or bear’ scenario (happens often…) nobody is choosing a bloody bear FFS.
For context, I have a ten year old daughter and I’d much rather she grew up suitably streetwise but without the current trendy hysterical fear that all men are nasty rapey sorts. That isn’t the road to a well functioning society. A healthy realisation that bad people will always exist, but that the overwhelming majority of people are fine, will serve her far better. As well as, hopefully, enough common sense to appreciate that bears are inherently more dangerous than humans
You make the mistake most of us men make. It’s not believing ALL men are bad. It’s not knowing which man you encounter is the 1 in 10 or 20 who is a problem. Just approach it with an open mind which a lot of men don't do as this thread demonstrates
That’s because a lot of men, almost certainly the vast majority of men have never done anything to make women even feel uncomfortable, never mind consider harming a woman. The question highlights how all men have been cast as evil villains almost certain to harm women due to the actions of a small number.
That educated men are participating in this discussion and are agreeing with how they’ve been tarred because of another’s actions is incredible to me.
I asked my wife what she thought about this level of misandry. She did not know what the term meant. Yet everyone knows what misogyny is.

Noticed this question blowing up on social media recently:
Alone in the woods at night, would you encounter a completely randomly selected man or a bear
The majority of females surveyed responded a bear.
I had a look around various forums and such as well as asking a few female friends this myself and was surprised that was their answer too - to me this is a bit of a shock of just how badly men appear to be perceived by females - perhaps I’m out of touch or something ! (Unless people just aren’t scared of bears at all!)
What this really shows is how many women on social media will jump on any opportunity to criticise men in general. The survey is hardly accurate though as it will have been targeted at people who it is likely to get a response from. So actually all it's done is ask someone who spends significant time whinging about a group of people how they feel about that group of people. Then attempted to pass it off as representative of how people in general feel. Alone in the woods at night, would you encounter a completely randomly selected man or a bear

This sort of nonsense does nothing except stir up bad feeling and I don't understand what people feel they are gaining by perpetuating it.

Other way round. Loads of people in this thread were all over it and in the last few pages have changed their mind and switched to "ok we were wrong but actually it was just overselling to prove a point.".
The sorts of people who get out of cars for selfies with bears have learned a lot this week.

But what do we want the decent, honest, non-rapey, non-murdery men to do about the situation? Form vigilante groups, roam the streets at night hunting perverts and escorting women in safety? Societal change is the answer - but, shock, perhaps that starts with the end of popular culture displaying women as sex objects, be it music videos, magazines or The Sun advertising their cheap holidays with a completely superfluous curvy woman in a bikini. Our society has become chronically over-sexualised, our children no longer get a childhood and are exposed to it at every turn. This Morning, a supposed daytime TV show, had one segment on sex toys and another on “Britain’s Biggest Penis” in recent months, being broadcast at lunchtime. Wtf is that about? And the same society that sits and presides over all of this then wonders why we have a problem with attitudes towards women and sex? Southerner said:

I mentioned up thread my own young daughter, I would be happy if she grows up with common sense and alterness but minus an irrational shrieking belief that men are inherently predators.
Rant ends!

Incredible how many people have asked their wives too. Samples of one eh!

I showed my partner this thread and they perfectly understood why people picked the bear. Y’all are exhausting.
Does your partner not understand statistics either then? You notice how the original social media post gives the stats for bear attacks and then says "do I need to give you the stats for attacks by men"? Well yes, you do, because once you get them laid out per capita weighted for the number of encounters it becomes perfectly clear that bears are thousands of times more dangerous than men.
Of course attacks on women are appalling, and we should all do all we can to eradicate them, but that doesn't change the fact that this particular argument to do so is just silly.

Part of it is statistics; women encounter men everyday, no issues, etc.
People who encounter bears - lucky to live, etc. But then again, the women posting this don't exactly go out into the woods frequently.
Incidentally, if one has to go down the path of statistics, the next most appropriate question would be to ask "what race is the man?"
And that of course ends the entire question and train of thought right there and then.

Bear attacks are quite rare, encounters not so much. Bears don't ordinarily attack humans unless threatened. Bears will generally try to avoid humans.
The best thing you can do if you encounter a bear is try to identify yourself as human (make yourself bigger, wave your arms) according the the US National Parks Service (who might know a thing or two about bears).
https://www.nps.gov/subjects/bears/safety.htm
But encounter ~10 bears and you'll more than likely have your face torn off.
It's like in the first scenario going off to buy a yacht because you bought one lottery ticket and you think you're assured of the win. Statistically, it's stupid.

It shows most people are fking stupid. A bear would kill them by eating them stomach first. Anybody who had experience of bears would never say they’d rather be eaten by a bear than come across a man.
There’s also many stupid men, who seem to have no idea of an analogy or something to make you think, instead everything is taken literally.I’d hate to think what some of you might think if I said I started taking the piss out of someone, would I literally be taking the piss out of them via an operation or something?
