Apostrophe'''''s, when did the rot set in?

So is this story I've just seen on the BBC News website. According to the BBC, the poor lady's shop was vandalised and to add insult to injury, her window has no money. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-york-north-y...

Phrases that do my head in:
'Went extinct' Isn't it 'Become extinct'?
'Set on fire' No, it is 'Caught fire' (on the news yesterday they were talking about the Japanese plane that 'Set on fire' FFS!)
Wrong thread ? 'Went extinct' Isn't it 'Become extinct'?
'Set on fire' No, it is 'Caught fire' (on the news yesterday they were talking about the Japanese plane that 'Set on fire' FFS!)

Sam Cabral of BBC News said:
An attorney representing Ms Hutchins' family said it was "looking forward to the criminal trial".
"Our clients have always sought the truth about what happened on the day that Halyna Hutchins was tragically shot and killed," Gloria Allred said in a statement.
"They continue to seek the truth in our civil lawsuit for them and they also would like there [sic] to be accountability in the criminal justice system."
Why have the BBC added [sic] to the statement? Does Sam Cabral think it should be "would like their to be accountability"? Are there no editors or proof readers any more? Not an apostrophic abomination but nowhere else to complain."Our clients have always sought the truth about what happened on the day that Halyna Hutchins was tragically shot and killed," Gloria Allred said in a statement.
"They continue to seek the truth in our civil lawsuit for them and they also would like there [sic] to be accountability in the criminal justice system."
