Nice one! Great perseverance, and mental fortitude to get it going again!

Now get rid of it. ASAP!

Given that the engine that's in now is fairly unmolested, and probably newer/lower mileage than the old lump, I'd hope you'd get a year or two out of it if you kept it.
That engine is absolutely a complete unknown given the shysters that sold it to him, huge risk keeping it given the known designed-in problems as well.
As painful as it would be to Escy after all this work I'd get rid too & have done so in the past with problem cars. Especially with the prior comments about your boss complaining about you being distracted at work etc, better to lose a few quid on a car than lose your job & risk your health & relationship etc etc.

I'm pleased you got it going again

But I note in the video that you say it's still running quite noisily, coupled with the fact that the engine came from Dodgy-ville.

Please, for the love of God, sell it now. They're nice cars to drive but it's a ticking timebomb.

I too am in awe of Escy’s ability to pop a new motor in his car over the bank holiday weekend. I’m a bit in two minds about punting it to WBAC - someone else will end up with it as a 2 owner FSH etc etc…

You say that like they aren't normally ticking time bombs..

Escy now has a car that bought as a fixer-upper and that he has fixed.
It very much is the car his wife wants.

He seems like an honest guy himself and not based in the arse end of Birmingham.
I cannot imaging him wanting to behave like the Dudley Deadbeats and palm it off on some poor unsuspecting member of the public with no mechanical skills and a thin wallet.
I am on Team Keepit where this car is concerned.
But it's not my car or decision.

It's now no more or less of a risk than any other F-Pace for sale. Given that his 2nd engine failure was another JLR issue, just goes to highlight.

Selling might not be so easy now with all the info out there about the trials and tribulations with this car over the last few months.

How many people do you think read PH forums, and specifically this thread? 99.99% of potential buyers wouldn't have a clue it even exists!

So perhaps the remap / DPF code-out is an issue?

I’m on Team Keepit because this is an excellent thread and Escy’s YouTube presentation skills are top notch too.

Thinking more broadly, cars are repaired all the time, so selling this particular car is no worse than selling any other.

The OP must have pumped, what, 16 grand into it including the latest new engine?

There's a 2016 R-Sport in the classifieds, 3 owners, 110k miles up for 13 and a half.

Maybe it is worth keeping and just stripping it for parts if something else goes.

For those saying keep it you're ignoring the emotional impact of another failure. There's a 50/50 chance of that happening and Escy was already at a low with the last failure. I'd say doing a swap for a Touareg would be a much more sensible option (we've had both) with plenty of choice out there within a grand or so of what the F-Pace could now fetch and they carry the miles much better than the Jag. Or do what we did after the F-Pace, a 3 series Touring.

I think you might be surprised smile

Not forgetting the You Tube videos as well.

Escy's perseverance and abilities are amazing. This is a better and more captivating read than any best-selling thriller!

Regarding the sell or keep dilemma, as a matter of interest, how many of those who are saying keep would want this car if they had no mechanical/spannering skills?

Not *entirely* unknown. It runs well, it's quieter than the old one, it's had new chains fitted, the sump's been off and apparently it looks like it's never been apart before.

I'd have cut my losses and got shot of it rather than stick another engine in - but now it's in and running, it's a different matter: Selling now just crystallizes the losses, and switches you into another moon-mileage car that's truly an unknown.

I’d be keeping it.

They are great when they work and he knows it now.

As said above, it’s the devil he knows.

Go back to the Bank, its not fraud, but you can chargeback under "goods not described". Come back to me if you need help with a letter
Wouldn't he have to return the wrong engine which is now half way into Escy's F-Pace ?
As soon as you do the chargeback the money will be refunded to Escy's account and an investigation will take place. they will request more info from the seller but he has two pics of different engines the one he bought and the one that was sent to him. Ultimately they could request the engine back, but i have a feeling that they wont want to incur the extra costs to do that and will move on to scamming their next victim.

At the very least you should be able to negotiate a much lower price. You would be amazed at how willing people are to negotiate once they dont have your money anymore!
You can’t chargeback a bank transfer in that way. A part of the price was paid on PayPal, but IIRC their buyer protection doesn’t apply if you (or your representative) physically collected the goods - would need to read their agreements - and might not apply if (a) the PayPal account didn’t belong to the seller, and (b) was only partial payment for the goods.

This is why a credit card is a good bet (at least until the Govt caves and repeals S.75), but also one of the reasons why dodgy sellers don’t like credit cards.
Apols missed the part about paid by Paypal / BACS yes always use a credit card if poss. if the seller doesnt accept credit cards and they are a business, thats a guant red flag!

Good luck with this Escy behind you all the way with this!
