First day this year my schedule and the weather have coincided long enough to ride my R and TFC back to back to compare. Yes they are the same bike, but they feel quite different.
The R is softer feeling and I have always ridden it in sport mode to sharpen the throttle but used the torque hardly ever revving it out as it gave most low down. The TFC revs more freely and keeps delivering higher in the rev range, but still with all the low down grunt. I started in sport mode but for bimbling road is better. The gearbox feels smoother and the upgraded front forks are noticeable. Still undecided about the leather seat, it is very slippery.
I really should sell the R , can’t justify owning both, but…
So today whilst still shamefully unemployed I thought I'd go and combine my favorite hobby with one of my favourite charities, so made my way to Silverstone Circuit with The Bike Experience and be a general busy body and helper, aiding getting physically challenged riders back out on motorbikes in a safe space, this time The Old Copse Runway.
We had some real winners in this group, one crasher, one faller'offer (more the fault of the catch crew, ie me than the rider), but we think we have a new Endurance Racing Strategy and a young lady with Cerebal Palsy that had never even sat on a motorbike until today giving it her first shot, was humbling to see the energy and positivity in the group.
Was awesome to meet up with Andy Ibbott again and meet as he is such a funny sod.

The big Zed engine fits into the 650 cradle ok, but all the mounts need to be moved to align with the bigger motor. Also note that the earlier Z900/Z1000A1,A2 engines have different mounts than the later Z1000J and GPz engines.While the more powerful 750 engines fit the 650 frame with less hassle. Just need to use different spacers. A lightly tuned 750 motor can make as much as the Z900/1000, while being a bit lighter. Or you could fit a turbo just as Kawasaki did with their GPz750 turbo. A mate is building a streetfighter for a customer with a big bore 810 turbo in a 650 frame at the moment, while this years project for me is to use a GPz 750 engine in a 650 frame, with modern running gear, making it as light as possible.

Yep it dropped a powervalve at Donni and lost a load of bottom to mid + felt a touch flatter up topAlso had an issue with the carbs but I fixed this end of last year
Went in for 2 fresh cast pistons (I decided not to go forged route for a few reasons) and new genuine power valves. Been told there is a better design but its costly. I was quite lucky really that it didnt lock up. The top ring is completely jammed in

Very lucky indeed... it's something to keep an eye on with the standard PV's, the pin can begin to loosen and finally let go with the resulting outcome...Also had an issue with the carbs but I fixed this end of last year

As for the replacement PV's, they do solve the problem of the original pin issues however they seem to make the motor a bit more peaky.
Also keep an eye on the PV set up cables and associated mechanicals as they can wear and go out of sync and have you chasing your tail trying to find the problem.
A really good tool if you're going to keep the bike long term is an rpm generator. I got mine from Sean at the Tuning Works. You can basically inject a fake rpm signal ad the bike will respond by opening the PV's etc on the bench so you can confirm synchronization of the PV's based on rpm input etc. Well recommended and I'd say vital if you decide to fit a Zeeltronic programmable controller.....

It's very strange after so many years riding sportsbikes to go to a naked, but I like it. I've only done 100 miles on it admittedly but it's very agile and I enjoy the low down torque. I need to get it out a proper run, there is a few wee issues already though, the throttle is jerky as fk around town but I think that's a known characteristic and I've a leaking front brake reservoir. I wanted the zeeltronic setup and qs but it was another grand for everything inc install and dyno setup and with my racing absorbing a lot of my funds I had to put on the back burner
Went out in the day to pickup a bigger 'ped (or scooter) whatever they call it
Quite possibly the most nonce name a bike could be called which had us laughing (which is typical of our poor humour)
I introduce the Suzuki 'Sixteen' 125
3900km and sat since 2015. Needs a bit of work but I dont mind tinkering. Will sell the beloved Peugeot Kisbee 50 once I get the 125 fixed up properly which has been amazing holding a comfy 45mph and 114mpg average over the last 5 months or so
Then in the evening went out to Great Bentley which was rammed! They sold out of stone baked pizza so in the pub for a beer and one of theirs instead
