𝗢𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘃𝗶𝗲𝘄
In mainstream motoring ‘entry level’ models are normally about as popular as athlete’s foot, but none of that applies when there’s a winged Aston Martin badge on the bonnet. Aston’s Ian Callum/Henrik Fisker-designed V8 Vantage of 2005 draped delicious handbuilt aluminium bodywork over a strong and light aluminium structure. The glorious result gained automotive art appreciation awards from car magazine readers around the world.
The Vantage went as well as it looked too thanks to its heroic dry-sump 4.3 litre V8 engine. When connected to the desirable 6-speed manual gearbox, as here in our auction Vantage, it produced 380bhp at 7,000rpm and 302lb ft at 5,000rpm. That was enough to catapult the car through the 0-60mph run in a sonically thrilling 4.9sec and go on from there to 175mph. The well-sorted Vantage chassis assisted by Dynamic Stability Control kept everything tidy.
The proud owner of our January 2007 specimen was PH member David Smith, who tragically left us too soon and the car is now, very regretfully, being sold by David’s wife Michelle. Stunning in Toro Red with Obsidian Black leather, it’s a manual car with some well-chosen factory upgrades. We’re told that it’s in excellent condition and driving beautifully. At the last MOT test in November 2022 the car’s mileage was recorded at 20,931. As of August 2023 that figure had fractionally increased to its present mileage of just over 21,000 miles, representing an overall annual average of between 1,000 and 2,000 miles.
Earlier ’05-’06 Vantages had occasional starting issues but the seller of this ’07 car tells us that it has never failed to start, and that under the current ownership it has always been stored with a trickle charger connected to the battery. The battery itself was replaced in 2022.
𝗛𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗼𝗿𝘆 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗱𝗼𝗰𝘂𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻
A strong service history comes with the car.
● 27 April 2007 at 852 miles (Aston Martin Grange of Exeter)
● 24 April 2009 at 3,944 miles (Aston Martin Grange of Exeter)
● 1 March 2013 at 5,567 miles (Aston Martin Stratstone Cardiff)
● 18 March 2014 at 7,507 miles (Aston Martin Stratstone Cardiff)
● 29 April 2015 at 11,621 miles (The Supercar Room)
● 22 March 2016 at 13,726 miles (Aston Martin Specialist)
The last three services in 2017 (15,245 miles), 2018 (16,417 miles) and 2019 (18,457 miles) were carried out by Kwik Fit as the late owner was unable to travel to more distant Aston dealers or specialists because of his poor health.
All service documents will be with the car on collection.
There are no stolen, write-off or finance warnings on the HPI check.
No modifications have been carried out.
The cherished registration number V800 DCS in staying with the car.
𝗜𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗼𝗿
● Optional extras fitted to this car include Aston Martin’s 700watt Premium Audio system, heated seats, tracker, alarm upgrade (volumetric and tilt), Bluetooth telephone prep and popup satnav.
● The full leather interior in Obsidian Black with Tailor’s Grey headlining is unmarked apart from a scratch on the passenger seat which the seller thinks might be remedied by someone with basic leather conditioning cream application skills.
● Although the passenger side window has one-touch operation the window on the driver’s side goes down in increments, a common issue on these (and other) Astons that can often be put right by a simple reset procedure.
● As noted on the MOT history there’s a minor amount of fraying on the passenger seatbelt.
● There’s a tiny amount of light surface corrosion on the door lock screws. Other than that there is no rust.
𝗘𝘅𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗼𝗿
● The condition of the bodywork is described as excellent with the exception of one stone chip on the driver’s side rear quarter and a small (approx 1.5in) area of paint bubbling on the leading edge of the driver’s door, which is a common occurrence on this generation of Vantage
● In 2016 the car was hit by a flying tile from the seller’s roof. Repairs to the paintwork and rear screen were carried out. Details appear in the history pack.
● The car has Xenon headlights with powerwash, LED rear lights, rear parking sensors, powerfold mirrors and an alloy facia.
𝗠𝗲𝗰𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗹
● The durable all-alloy four-cam 32-valve 4.3 litre V8 is running beautifully.
● The original 18in 10-spoke wheels have been upgraded to 19in 7-spoke wheels.
● The Bridgestone tyres are in good condition with fewer than 5,000 miles of use.
● Grey calipers grip vented and grooved brakes.
● ‘Wearing thin’ rear brake pads were noted on last November’s MOT as an advisory. Very little additional mileage has been covered since then.
𝗦𝘂𝗺𝗺𝗮𝗿𝘆
Even if you’re only a passing fan of the classic 1971 McQueen movie Le Mans you probably need a V8 Vantage in your life. They’re worth it for the hair-raising howl of the 4.3 motor alone but they’ll give you so much more than just an epic noise. The hatchback bodystyle conceals a useful 300 litre boot, making the Vantage ideal for spirited two-up continental touring.
This low-mileage example comes with full paperwork to back up its annual servicing programme and at 21,000 miles is now nicely poised to deliver a full-on Aston V8 experience to the next lucky owner.
