Overview

If you’re heading down to the South of France, or over the Alps to Italy, you could take the easy option and hop on a plane. But if you actually want to enjoy the journey you’ll do it in a grand tourer, a car built for chewing up the miles on the autoroute, and still enjoying the twistier bits of the mountains when you get there.

So a car called the GranTurismo is a good place to start when selecting your transport of choice for this kind of journey. Or any other journey where you care about the car’s performance, but you still want to be able to carry enough luggage to avoid any embarrassing wardrobe issues at the lakeside hotel when you arrive.

A sonorous 4.2-litre V8 good for 394bhp is mated to an auto box which can be controlled via paddles behind the steering wheel, providing a useful mix of comfort and ability.

And unlike many grand tourers, the Maserati GranTurismo has rear seats which you could put genuine humans in. In fact, they look almost as comfortable as the front seats, with deep bolstering and contrasting stitching. The whole interior of this car is very well presented and would be a very pleasant place to spend a long journey.

This example is finished in silver, all the better to show off Pinninfarina’s eye-catching design and was recently serviced in October 2024. With a long MOT, it is ready to be enjoyed on journeys long and short.
