Overview

Sometimes a short name just won’t do. In order to convey a true sense of one’s importance it may be necessary to adopt an enormously long name. The car offered for sale here has leant into this idea almost as much as the Duke of Portland (Prime Minister 1807-1809) did.

If William Henry Cavendish Cavendish-Bentinck — 3rd Duke of Portland, Viscount Woodstock, Baron Cirencester — were to name a car, he would probably come up with something along the lines of the Mercedes-AMG C63S Cabriolet Night Edition Premium Plus. But this car certainly isn’t all mouth and no trousers.

We could spend hours discussing the minute detail of each part of this car’s title. But all you really need to know is that it has a twin-turbo V8 engine, a soft top roof, and all the trim options you could ever desire. And it carries them off with all the grace and decorum of a Georgian Prime Minister.

This Mercedes has lived a cosseted life, with the seller noting that it has been cleaned and detailed on a regular basis and treated to an annual machine polish, whether it needs it or not.

But most importantly, it has the performance to match all this. The 500-odd horses grazing happily under the bonnet can be spurred into a gallop by selecting one of the many sport modes and carefully applying the accelerator. Note our choice of ‘carefully’: Mercedes-Benz provided all new owners with an advanced driving course, in order to get the most out of this wild beast.

• The car has reportedly been regularly professionally detailed, polished annually, and had an anti-algae roof treatment
• There are a few small chips in the paint, though nothing obvious
• Body panels in good condition, with no dents or damage that we could see

Summary

If you’re looking for a powerful, shiny, well-appointed cabriolet, then this C63 should be high on your list. The expansive name betrays a top-notch specification and it packs quite a punch.

And while the toys are nice, we’ve no doubt that pressing that twin-turbo V8 into action for the first time will reassure you that you made the right choice when you decided to place a bid.
