Overview
When Porsche introduced the 718 Cayman in 2016, many of the brand’s purists were left in a state of shock. For unlike ever before, the new model was a four-cylinder, with forced induction replacing cubic capacity to deliver the performance goods.
There's no denying that the 2.5-litre four-pot GTS was a good car. Indeed, it was great, with terrific handing and wicked performance. But it just didn’t make the same burbling and warbling noises as the flat-six that had defined previous Caymans, or, indeed, the earlier, smaller 911s that had more in common with a Cayman than the prestigious big GT that the current 911 has become.
Porsche, though, listened to its fans – and while a four-cylinder Cayman remained and was still a terrific sports car, the re-introduction of a naturally aspirated flat-six led to celebrations among the Porscherati, who had assumed it was gone for good.
The engine is a naturally aspirated 400bhp unit, which in the GTS is matched with a six-speed manual gearbox and a limited slip diff. It’s as if Porsche’s engineers had gone back to the drawing board with the already terrific four-cylinder 718 and worked out how to extract maximum Porsche out of it. As well as that potent flat-six, the mods included dropping the ride height by 20mm, fitting 20-inch alloys and grippy Michelin Pilot Sport tyres and Porsche Active Suspension Mechanism (PASM) to maximise grip at all times.
Make no mistake, the 2020-onwards 718 Cayman is one of the true great small Porsches, as stylish and well-made as it is engaging to drive. And then there’s the soundtrack – the aforementioned warble at idle turns into a raucous bark at higher revs. There’s no chirruping turbo here making sure that max bhp is applied; just good, old-fashioned engineering from one of the finest engine builders in the business. 0-60mph is dispatched in a shade over four seconds – four seconds in which a myriad of wonderful noises are made and all of your senses are teased.
If you don’t believe us, then the only way to find out is for yourself – and here’s your chance, with this lovely, low-mileage example in stunning Gentian Blue, bought new by the vendor in December 2022 and kept in impeccable condition. It’s a wonderful thing.

Summary
The 4.0-litre Cayman GTS is one of those Porsches that will be spoken of in hushed tones in years to come. One of the true greats; a car that marked a return to form by taking what was already a brilliant Porsche and making it even better.
This one has less than 3,000 miles on the clock and has had an easy life, well-loved and cherished by its owner and properly kept and maintained. It’s a genuine collector-quality example in what we also happen to think is a stunning colour.
