Overview
GranTurismo is a name steeped in Maserati heritage. It’s a line that can be traced back to the 1947 A6 1500 GT Pininfarina – a car that successfully fused the agility of a sports car with the style and luxury of a grand tourer.
That lineage was revived in 2007, when the Italian company revealed the modern GranTurismo at the Geneva Motor Show as the replacement for the outgoing Coupé and Spyder models. Once again styled by Pininfarina and in spacious four-seater configuration, the GranTurismo met the design brief of the original – comfortable, spacious, refined; yet at the same time a properly agile sports machine, with a Ferrari-developed 4.2-litre V8 engine.
It may have been quick and it might have had sports-car manners, largely thanks to its advanced multi-link suspension and Skyhook dampers, but the GranTurismo never lost sight of what the brand stood for – fine-grain leather, delicate materials and the type of attention to detail that has always given Maserati the cutting edge over some rivals. Breathtaking, but not brash.
The GranTurismo Sport variant made its debut in 2012, representing a further evolution of the model. By now, the V8 had expanded to a capacity of 4.7-litres and in the Sport it was even more potent than standard models, developing 440bhp. The model also had what Maserati called its “MC-Shift transaxle”, with a semi-automated transmission in lieu of the standard ZF auto found on earlier cars and aluminium six-pot Brembo brake callipers.
And that’s what we have here – a 2013 model in Pearl Grey, which has been with its current owner for over 11 years and is very smartly presented, complete with a comprehensive service history, mostly from main dealership HR Owen. It’s a great-looking car, with a dark leather interior and a low mileage of just over 46,000 from new.

Summary
There’s something almost cerebral about a Maserati. It’s a sports car, but one for the more discerning owner. Italy’s Aston Martin, if you will. It’s just as stylish, but with perhaps a little more vim and a touch less discretion – plus an equal dose of character.
The GranTurismo defines that, and this one is a remarkable example – a lovely, low-mileage car in superb condition inside and out, it’s also a subtly attractive colour scheme and has clearly been loved by a long-term owner. It’s one not to miss.
