Overview

The Mk7 Golf GTI has always been the hot hatch that quietly does everything, and the Clubsport Edition 40 was Volkswagen's way of marking the GTI's 40th birthday with something sharper. Sitting between the standard GTI and the R, it gained retuned dampers, stiffer springs and an overboost function. A limited run makes it one of the more collectable Mk7s.

This is No. 443, a three-door finished in Tornado Red, and it's been further developed with real intent. The owner hasn't simply chased a headline number; the whole car has been engineered as a package. A comprehensive Stage 3 build takes it to a dyno-verified figure of around 515bhp, with the cooling, fuelling, chassis and braking all uprated to match.

It’s also beautifully presented. Ceramic coated within the last few months and, we're told, never driven in the rain, the paintwork carries a deep, even gloss with no dents or damage across the panels. It sits on unmarked satin-black OZ Ultraleggera 19s wrapped in near-new Continental SportContact 7 tyres.

Inside it's every bit as tidy, with taut leather sports seats, crisp Clubsport detailing and a cabin that belies its mileage. It's a genuinely useable performance hatch that presents to a show standard and it’s turned up to 11.

Summary
