Description

We are delighted to be offering this spectacular and very rare Aston Martin Virage Volante 6.3.
In 1992 Aston Martin Lagonda’s customer service facility introduced the Virage 6.3 litre conversion for their customer’s as the thought was that, 330bhp was just not enough. This was actually much more than just an enlarged engine conversion. To cope with the additional power and torque produced the enhancements also involved extensive changes to the suspension, uprated brakes, larger wheels and tyres. The cosmetic upgrades included substantially flared arches, deep front air dam, boot mounted spoiler (optional), extended sill covers, extended rear valance and larger side air vents.
Initially the peak power was quoted a 465bhp but then in 1993 was revised, with the introduction of a high lift camshaft and solid tappets, to 500bhp with 480lb of torque @ 5800rpm. This equates to an impressive 60% increase from the standard engine. Driving through a five or six speed manual ZF gearbox, or a three speed automatic transmission, the extra power was sufficient to power the vehicle up to 175mph with a 0-60 and 0-100 acceleration, taking a quoted 5.1 and 11.5 seconds respectively. The 14” ventilated and cross drilled brake discs, combined with four pot callipers, both derived from the AMR1 were at the time claimed to be the largest fitted to any production car in the world. The stylish OZ five spoke 10.5”split rims were fitted with 285/45 18” Goodyear Eagle tyres which offered the additional traction and grip required.
The wide body conversion was a popular and desired option on many of the later Virage Volante’s, however most retained the smaller engine and were known as a “Cosmetic 6.3” or “Wide bodied” and generally retained the standard running gear. Conversely, it’s believed that three standard or narrow bodied Virage Volantes were built with the 6.3 engine. With all this confusion it’s hard to tell which vehicles have the full conversion, however the genuine 6.3’s carry a special badge neatly placed on the right hand side lip of the boot lid.
Generally, the conversions were carry out after having been completely finished, yet later in life some were built with wide bodies in production.
This particular 1994 model year vehicle, released from manufacture and registered 23rd September 1994 is 1 of 4 such cars purpose built as a 6.3 Virage Volante and is fitted with 6 speed manual transmission. The exterior is finished in Buckinghamshire green metallic with a black mohair hood, also having a black leather tonneau cover with dark green piping. The Interior is trimmed in full black leather, black leather seat with perforated seat inserts and dark green piping, black carpets, light grey Alcantara headlining and Burr Walnut wood veneers.
It’s an exciting and enjoyable car to drive and comes with an extensive service history where Chiltern Aston has been looking after it for many years. Currently at 56,444 mile and with only 2 former keepers.
