Classic Radio, 15'' Steel Wheels, Black Mohair Soft Top, Folding Roof, Rear Wheel Drive, ULEZ COMPLIANT, LHD, 4 Speed Gearbox, Rear Drum Brakes, Front Drum Brakes, Period Radio, Original Steering Wheel, Leather Trim, Full Size Spare Wheel, 4 Speed Manual Gearbox By the 1950s, Alfa Romeo had an enviable reputation as a manufacturer of incredibly successful racing cars and stunning road cars. This reputation was developed over successive decades and resulted in wins in the most iconic road races, including the Mille Miglia and Targa Florio. Alfa Romeo could also boast that the world’s best drivers, including Tazio Nuvolari, Giuseppe “Nino” Farina, and Juan Manuel Fangio, had won races in its cars. It was with this backdrop that Alfa Romeo set the standard for meeting the high expectations of its customers. With each of its models very well received, the real stand-outs throughout its history were its glamorous convertibles, including the 6C 250 SS Spider. In 1954, Alfa Romeo introduced the 1.3-litre Giulietta, establishing its reputation for producing small cars with “big performance”, and this reputation has continued to this day with the recently launched 4C. Such was the success of the Giulietta, whose introduction caused a sensation, that Alfa was forced to change its whole ethos and become, for the first time, a high-volume manufacturer. The Berlina and Spider versions quickly joined the original Giulietta Sprint Coupé of 1954, and the spider benefitted from simple and elegant coachwork designed and built by Pininfarina. In 750 series form, the Veloce Spider came with an up-rated engine that was equipped with dual Weber carburettors and could produce a healthy 90 brake horsepower, which was 10 horsepower higher than the standard engine. The Giulietta Veloce enjoys the honour of being the best performing and most developed open variant of the 1300 line. This fully restored 1958 Alfa Romeo Giulietta Spider (750) - Chassis No: AR149503594 and Engine No: AR131541567 was, according to the Alfa Romeo Certificato Di Origine, built in Italy on 15th February 1958 and exported to New York on 5th March 1958 where it was subsequently sold by the Hoffman Motor Car Company in New York. It was purchased in the USA by an Italian gentleman in 1992 and taken taken back to Italy where it remained in his private collection for until he commissioned a complete rebuild of the car in 2015 and it was finished two years later in 2017. All works were carried out by renowned Alfa Romeo specialist Carrozzeria Renzo Tullj in Teramo, Italy and there is a memory stick containing over 260 photographs of the restoration, some of which are contained in the photographs on this advert. The 1,290cc DOHC 90bhp inline four-cylinder aluminium engine fitted to this car is not its original unit and it was replaced at some point in its early life in the USA with a replacement but correct 'AR1315' series engine from 1958 according to the engine number sequence on Alfa Romeo's register. This unit along with its original 4 speed manual gearbox were both fully rebuilt and the rear axle, front and rear suspension components and braking system were all either rebuilt, replaced or overhauled. The body-shell received a total bare metal restoration and all brightwork was re-chromed or replaced and it has a completely new interior including seat covers and door trims, new carpets and a new Navy Blue mohair soft top. Apart from the photo's of the restoration, there are also many invoices in the history file for the huge number of parts purchased and for all works carried out. Since the restoration was finished, the car has only covered 2,232 miles as indicated on the MPH Speedometer and it was reading 97,300 miles before the restoration, so it has most likely covered 99,532 miles from new, although we are unable to confirm this. This really is in exceptional example and it was awarded an Italian ASI Gold Plate soon after the restoration was completed. Now UK registered, it wears the age related numberplate 919 XVU and it has just been given a new MOT which runs until 16th February 2024. These Giulietta's are beautiful looking cars and great fun to drive and prices have risen over the last few years, so it should be a good investment for its new owner. Upon sale, the car will come with a pre-sales service and our own standard 6 months mechanical breakdown Parts & Labour Warranty which can be upgraded and extended at additional cost if required. PLEASE NOTE: This car is now in a secure storage facility in the Cotswolds, so if you are interested in viewing please get in touch and we can make the necessary arrangements.
