I bought this car with the intention of keeping for a very long time, however I haven’t driven it much in the last couple of years (since working from home) so it is no longer needed. It has always been stored in my dry, insulated workshop and attached to a battery conditioner when not in use for extended periods of time.

Car is completely standard and comes with all the standard R-Line features including super-illuminating headlights (that turn with the steering), full panoramic roof, heated steering wheel etc and it also has the very sought after factory fitted tow pack option.

As you will see form the service history (see excel file link at end), regular servicing was carried out by VW until the end of warranty period. After that, all servicing was carried out by myself, I am a fully qualified engineer and have my own fully equipped automotive workshop, on top of that I am a bit OCD when it comes to car maintenance, so always carry out servicing and preventative maintenance thoroughly and professionally on all my vehicles.

Because I bought this car to keep for many years, I have ensured that it has only ever (and I mean EVER) been run on Shell or Esso diesel, not only that, but I also (and have done since purchase) use Millers diesel additive on every fill up. The additive ensures that things like injectors, EGR valves and most importantly DPF filters are kept clean. You just have to look at the exhaust tips to see that there are absolutely no signs of poor running. As with all my cars, the Touareg has been kept in top shape mechanically.

Another big bonus for the future owner is that I changed all the transmission oils, filters, O rings etc at 60,000 miles, so that’s the auto box, the front differential, the centre differential (or transfer box) and the rear differential. All the correct VW specifications of oils were used, details and pictures of the operation are available should you wish to see proof.

The panoramic roof has been regularly given a lubrication service using silicone grease and works perfectly (see video for operation).

The car also comes with a complete set of 18” winter wheels with Vredestein Quatrac 5 SUV tyres with plenty of tread left. The 20” standard alloys (as in the pictures) are absolutely immaculate, no kerbing or corrosion, this is mainly due to the fact that I have tended to run around on the 18” wheels most of the year.

The car has never been used for short journeys and always treated with care, suspension is in really good shape (mainly due to running around on 18” wheels with balloon tyres for most of its life), no creaks, knocks etc. In fact, I would go so far as to say that in my opinion, this car is in top mechanical condition with no known faults, in the 60,000 miles I have done in the car, I have never had any issues. We have just travelled 2,000 miles down to South of France and back in searing temperatures of high 30s and the aircon has kept us all chilled (too cold my wife would say!).

Car has the factory fit towing option, so that’s an electrically deployed tow bar and electrics (see the video), the towing pack also comes with up-rated cooling system from the factory. The reverse camera does a great job of allowing you to line up your tow hitch perfectly. I have only towed rarely, usually my little covered trailer to the tip or very occasionally, towing one of my very light toy cars to a race track.

The oem car mats are as new as I have always used heavy duty rubber mats since getting the car, both sets will be supplied to the new owner along with the winter wheels & tyres included in the sale price

Negatives: Although I am OCD with mechanicals, I am not OCD about bodywork so there are a couple of small scars present; these are explained in the video. The 20” tyres are near end of life and I would say the brake discs all round will need doing in 10-20,000 miles depending upon your driving style.

The last MOT saw 2 advisories (never had any before) I can only assume the inspector was having a bad day and he wanted to ruin mine also as he gave an advisory on front lower wishbone bushes, I have since inspected these bushes and they are fine (picture available if you are into that sort of thing), yes there is micro cracking but that’s quite normal, I don’t see why these bushes will need replacing at any time soon, like I said before, I normally run around on 18” balloon tyres with soft sidewalls so the suspension gets a very easy time.

The other advisory was for rear brake discs, again maybe a bit too ‘jobsworth’ but they are getting towards the end of their life so I will let him off for that one.

All in all, this is a very well cared for and mechanically-pampered car, it drives beautifully, gets pretty good mpg (over 40 on trip to France), has plenty of power, and is extremely comfortable. By having all the transmission oils done, you have security that the very expensive transmission components will be good for many years to come (I advise doing next at 120,000 miles for peace of mind).

Next service not due for 5600 miles but I will carry out oil change and oil/ air/cabin filters if asking price is met.
