Description
15'' Steel Wheels, Folding Roof, Black Mohair Soft Top, Rear Drum Brakes, 5 Speed Manual transmission, ULEZ COMPLIANT, LHD, Rear Wheel Drive, Front Drum Brakes, Leatherette, Original Steering Wheel With Pininfarina styling, Italian flair and a responsive 1.6-litre engine, the Alfa Romeo Giulia Spider has all the hallmarks of a fantastic sports car. Introduced in 1962, the Giulia Spider was a development of the earlier Giulietta Spider, with a new, enlarged 1.6-litre engine in place of the original 1.3-litre offering, bringing increased torque and power across the rev range. Aesthetically, very little changed from the Giulietta with the only notable difference being the inclusion of a small bulge on the bonnet in order to clear the larger 1.6-litre engine. According to the Alfa Romeo Certificato Di Origine, this beautiful Tipo 101.23 LHD Alfa Romeo Giulia 1600 Spider - Chassis No: AR 378844 and Engine No: AR0051408256 is a 'Matching Numbers' car and it was built in Italy on 3rd January 1964 and first registered in Broni, Italy on 30th July 1964. It is finished in its original colour scheme of Rosso Red with Black Nero trim piped in Red and a Black Soft Top and it retains its original 1570cc Engine and 5 Speed Gearbox and its original 15'' Steel Wheels with Chrome Hub Caps. The car was taken to South Africa by its first Italian owner in the mid 1960's when he moved with his job to SA and after a couple of years he sold it to a man in Port Elizabeth. He did not have the car for long and he sold it to a Mr Harold Ainslie who gave the car to his son Alan as a 21st Birthday present in October 1972. The car was used regularly by Alan Ainslie before he had a comprehensive restoration and full mechanical rebuild carried out between 2009 and 2017 by specialists in the Cape Town area. The car was completely stripped to bare metal and repainted, the engine was fully rebuilt with new pistons and bearings, timing chains, cylinder head rebuilt with new valve guides and seals and the carburettors were rebuilt, the gearbox was stripped and reassembled with new parts and seals as required plus a new clutch fitted and the prop-shaft U/J's and doughnuts were renewed and the prop-shaft balanced. The whole interior was restored including new seat covers, new door trims, dash top, window and door seals plus a new windscreen, new carpets and a new Black Mohair hood to complete. Anew wiring loom was also fitted with some new electrical components, new cooling system pipes and radiator and all chrome-work was restored/re-chromed by a specialist in Cape Town. The braking system was also overhauled with new brake lines, a new master cylinder and new brake shoes and handbrake mechanism. The front and rear suspension components and steering box were replaced and the exhaust system renewed, and many other new parts with most being supplied by Classic Alfa here in the UK. The history file contains all the invoices from the workshop for the body restoration, a log from the garage for all mechanical works carried out as above, all invoices from Classic Alfa for parts used + quite a few photographs of the restoration. See the documents attached. Since completion in late 2015, Mr Ainsley advises that the car has covered no more than 3,000 miles, but after almost 50 years of ownership and restoring the car back to its former glory, he decided to sell the car and let someone else enjoy it for the next 50 years! We purchased and imported the car from him last year and it is now UK registered and has the age related number plate DAP 534B. Upon sale, the car will come with our own customer care package including a pre sales Service and MOT and our own 6 months mechanical breakdown Parts & Labour Warranty which can be upgraded and extended at additional cost if required. The car is of course Road Tax Free, MOT exempt and ULEZ compliant. This really is a fantastic car to drive and will surely be a great investment for the future as well as being a car that can be driven and enjoyed. As the car was previously registered in Italy from new, it should be less complicated to export back to Europe. PLEASE NOTE: This car is now in a secure storage facility in the Cotswolds, so if you are interested in viewing please get in touch and we can make the necessary arrangements.
