Description
This is a car with some great pedigree as it was previously owned for 7 years by one of the most well known members of the UK Owners Club and comes with only 1 of only 12 fully carbon bonnets currently in the UK. It also has cruise control which wasn't even a factory option for these cars. Whist the mileage is 96k miles, the engine and 6 speed gearbox were from a 20k odd TF300 car, fitted by the previous owner prior to being turbocharged. This means it has Toyota's rectified piston oil scrapers which are a known issue in all but the very last of the 2006 Roadsters.
Being a mechanical engineer myself the car has been very well maintained and has received a custom twin pass exhaust which strikes just the right balance of sporty sound without being intrusive or at all droney. The car has done less than 3k in my ownership, been garaged, stored over winters and rarely seen rain when it has been out. The two most common Roadster issues being the pre-cats and rear subframe are not an issue with the former not present and the latter structurally sound.
Highlights:
- SP260 charge cooled turbo kit installed by Matt Lee (a well respected person within Roadster Club circles).
- Engine from a TF300 with the fixed oil scrapers.
- Custom aluminium baffled oil sump.
- Link G4 ECU (USB cable supplied).
- 6 speed gearbox from the TF300 with limited slip differential.
- Matt Lee mid brace.
- Tein springs with KYB shocks (just the right balance of handling and comfort to me).
- American sourced anti roll bars (not sure on the make though).
- Megan Racing adjustable rear control arms.
- 16" front wheels with 17" rear for improved turn in but good grip at rear.
- Carbon fibre bonnet (apparently 1 of only 12 in the country).
- Grey Mohair roof in excellent condition.
- Short shifter.
- Cruise control system.
- Momo steering wheel.
- Blue Celica sports seats with matching gear shift gator & arm rest.
- Uprated stereo headunit.
- Battery quick isolator.
- Alarm siren relocated to give full available frunk space (when supplied spare wheel is also removed to make ~180L total including cabin storage).
- Engine cover gas struts.
- Various brackets powder coated.
- Facelift rear lights.
- Sable grey mirrors & engine vents.
- Chrome effect interior trim surrounds.
- Stainless sports pedals.
Maintenance/improvements in my almost 3 years of ownership:
- New custom designed twin pass exhaust.
- New Forge turbo bypass valve.
- New auxiliary belt idler pulleys (spare belt also supplied for when next due).
- Gearbox oil, engine oil & engine oil filter replaced just after purchase of car.
- Engine oil (Millers fully synthetic) & filter (MANN) changed annually regardless of mileage.
- Air filter cleaned & re-oiled.
- Coolant replaced (genuine Toyota).
- Charge cooler coolant changed.
- Brake & clutch fluid changed.
- New rear anti roll bad drop links.
- All brake caliper slides regreased.
- All discs & calipers painted.
- Underbody & suspension components treated with ACF50 soon after purchase of car.
- Various new hose & trim clips + stainless fasteners.
Room for improvements by new owner (sale price takes these into account):
- The car is tuned correctly for cruising (35+mpg easily achievable on the motorway) but runs slightly rich (safe vs running too lean) under boost due to new quieter exhaust. The intention was to take it for a complete new tune but figured it would be best for the new owner to do this so the car can be tuned to suit the new owner's preferences.
- The car is cosmetically excellent for the age but does have the odd mark here and there. It wouldn't take too much to get it looking exceptional again.
- The car originally came with a (rare I've been told) ducktail spoiler which needs a respray so has been removed from the car already but will be supplied with the car.
Of possible interest:
- The original louder exhaust is lighter and inherently less restrictive than the new one so will also be supplied with the car. It has fresh wadding and a Helmholtz resonator to make it as quiet and not droney as possible but due to it's dinky demeanour remains very much still 'fruity'.
- I purchased a Megillian front strut brace and the renowned door stiffening blocks but never got the time to fit them. These can also be supplied with the car if required for the same price I'd paid for them.
This car is no longer available for purchase.
