1995 Lotus Esprit S4s.

Recent full service and thorough inspection and various works at hugely respected Esprit restorers and specialists, SJ Sportscars in Crediton.

The S4s was released by Lotus in 1995, with a horsepower increase over the standard S4, now reaching 300bhp, and vastly different in looks to the S4. Retaining the high wing, and arch extensions from the Sport 300, the S4s was seen as bridging the gap between the S4 and the Sport 300.

To many people, the S4s is the ultimate Esprit, with the useability of the S4, combined with the looks of the Sport 300, and without the possible huge bills and perceived unreliability of the V8 engined cars.

They are indeed our favourite variant of the Esprit and built in such low numbers, surely the values are only going one way.

Originally there were 367 produced worldwide in total, and according to the How Many Left, there are now 31 registered and in use, and 36 SORN, leaving only 67 left in the UK! A super rare thing.

In 2015 and 2016, this car was subject to quite a thorough set of works by its previous owner, who runs his own garage, and is a huge S4s nut!

He refreshed all the suspension bushes, powder coated many parts, refurbished the wheels, refurbished the lights, and went through the car top to bottom curing all the niggles. The car was featured in Absolute Lotus magazine during this period, documenting the work done, I also have several photos from this period.

He then sold the car in 2020, and it was barely used during the next three years.

We have just sent the car through the workshops at SJ for another top-to-bottom check, which included a full C service, new water pump, new engine mounts, new body mounts, various new pipes, new vacuum pump, and various other small jobs, please get in touch with us for a full breakdown.

Cosmetically the car is also very good. The Calypso Red paintwork is beautiful, with only one or 2 very small marks. The interior is also excellent, with only really a small amount of wear to the driver's bolster to report. The wheels are still in good condition and are all shod with Michelin Pilot Sports.

This is a lovely example of a very sought-after example, these don’t come up for sale very often and don’t tend to hang around long when they do.
