I'm sure we all know the story of the Mk1 Golf Gti and how it changed the car market for the better, but for this 1990 Golf Gti Cabriolet, its real story begins when the previous owner purchased the car in 2011. He immediately embarked on what can only be described as a truly exhaustive restoration, to produce a car able to win trophies at car events. With a vast history file, the car has been treated to the renewal, refurbishment or upgrading of virtually every component. From the engine being rebuilt, the brake and fuel lines, the brakes, injection system, electrical system and much, much more, this car is an absolute gem. Fully re-trimmed in cream leather with navy piping sitting atop new carpets. The bare shell was treated to the most splendid of resprays in its original Helios Blue metallic, with new rubbers and trim pieces. A new mohair hood was fitted, along with BBS alloy wheels wrapped in Yokohama tyres connected to Raceland coilover suspension and Mintex vented discs. Its engine bay is so clean you could 'eat your dinner off it'. Looking underneath the car, you'll be greeted by yet another treat of outstanding condition. If anything could be improved, cosmetically or otherwise, it was done. If the sound of its Top Gear exhaust isn't enough to satisfy your ears, then the car is also fitted with a high-end stereo system with an amplifier and sub-woofer in the boot - welcome to the Nineties! With electric windows, electric roof, and a Toad alarm system with remote locking, it is also highly spec'd for such a car. Once completed, the owner was left with car that was 'as new as could be', and the odometer was zeroed to reflect this in 2012, just prior to its MOT. In the subsequent couple of years, the car was a frequent attendee at most VW events, where the owner's hard work and skill was rewarded with several Concours awards. In 2015, with the car having covered a mere 7k miles since its total rebuild, the car was SORN until 2022 when we purchased the car, and embarked on a thorough recommission and servicing. Today we have a car that is still worthy of the trophies. Simply superb in every way, the car is an absolute delight to drive.
