Description
The Citroen DS, also known as the Goddess, is a legendary car that revolutionised the automotive industry when it was first introduced in 1955. It was a bold and innovative design that was not only ahead of its time but also incredibly influential in shaping the direction of car design for decades to come.
The DS was the brainchild of Citroen's Chief Designer, Flaminio Bertoni and the company's Chief Engineer, André Lefebvre. The car was designed to be a luxurious, comfortable, and safe vehicle that could transport passengers over long distances in style.
The DS was not only visually striking, but it was also packed with advanced features. It featured a hydropneumatic suspension system that provided a smooth ride, power steering, and power brakes. The car was also equipped with a semi-automatic transmission, which was a groundbreaking innovation at the time.
The DS was an instant success, and over the years, Citroen released several models that built upon the success of the original. These models included the DS19, DS21, and DS23. Each model featured improvements and refinements that made the car even more luxurious, comfortable, and advanced.
In addition to the standard models, Citroen also produced several special edition DS models, including the DS Safari, DS Prestige, and DS Décapotable. These models were designed for specific markets and featured unique styling and features.
The Citroen DS remained in production until 1975, and during that time, it became an icon of French design and engineering. It was a car that was loved by celebrities, politicians, and enthusiasts alike. Today, the DS is still considered one of the most innovative and influential cars ever produced, and it continues to inspire car designers around the world.
This Citroen DS 20/5 was supplied new to south Africa and looked after in the dry state until it was purchased and shipped back to the UK in 2015.
