Description
This Ferrari 550 World Speed Record was delivered new via Maranello Concessionaires LTD in November 1999 to its first private custodian who resided in Barnet, Hertfordshire. Chassis no. 117145 is one of just seven WSRs allocated to the U.K. market, all of which were configured in Grigio Titanio with a Bordeaux interior – the same specification this car wears today.
In October 1998, Ferrari wanted to prove the newly launched 550 Maranello’s capabilities by taking a lightly modified version of the car to the Transportation Research Centre in Ohio, where it would break three records. The modified 550 Maranello covered 100 miles at an average speed of 190.2 mph, one hour at an average speed of 184 mph and 100 km at 188.9 mph.
To commemorate this ground-breaking achievement, Ferrari announced a limited production run of specially equipped 550 Maranellos, named WSR – ‘World Speed Record’. Each of these examples is equipped with a Fiorano Handling Package, a leather trimmed roll cage, an Alcantara steering wheel and carbon bucket racing seats with four-point race harnesses. Just 33 WSRs were constructed, of which only 7 were configured in right-hand drive for the U.K. market.
This Ferrari 550 WSR poses a timely opportunity to purchase one of the marque’s rarest special editions, built to celebrate what is still regarded as a commendable achievement by today’s standards. A well-presented and meticulously maintained example, complete with all handbooks, leather document wallet, numerous invoices, receipts and MOT certificates. The WSR has recently benefited from a service, health check and numerous other works in preparation for sale conducted via our workshop.
