The US-market Porsche 911 L (for ‘Lux’) was a one year only model, often recognised by its side reflectors, and benefited from S brakes and suspension, as well as the interior and exterior trim of the European S model. There was no S for the USA in 1968 so these 449 cars were the top of the range for that year.

This car has the rare ‘Elephant Hide’ vinyl interior completely intact, having had very few owners during its life, including one long-term lady owner in the UK. Its overall presentation is in a remarkably original, time warp condition with many lovely original aspects remaining, such as the factory plastic behind the door cards and the ticket from the seat trimmer.

Sold by Sports Purpose in 2018 to a longstanding friend of the business, the car has benefitted from considerable expenditure, most recently with trusted marque expert Prill Porsche Classics.

our thoughts

Porsche has always been expert at segregating ostensibly similar cars, with thoughtful details, evolution and options. Much as we love the S models, this car offers a slightly more relaxed and less overtly sporty drive.

The engine is strong and the car shares that attribute of good early cars of belying its age with the winning combination of cross-country pace, sufficient comfort for motorways and cities and an ease of use that so few of its contemporaries could offer as standard.

The Burgundy Red colour has all the cool resonance of a period film extra and the car really stands out from the herd. At the listed price, it represents a great entry point to a seminal Sixties 911 experience, in all its glory.
