Description
The Continental GT3-R is attaining legendary status as a rather special sweet spot of the Continental models. Limited to just 300 cars worldwide it began life as a classic skunkworks project handled by a very small team of people with the aim of creating the most driver-focussed, dynamic and responsive road going Bentley ever. Adulation from the motoring press confirmed the team had indeed met their brief, the GT3-R becoming the fastest accelerating Bentley ever when launched with a 0-60 mph time of 3.8 seconds, much praise was given to the fine driver focus versus long distance comfort balance achieved.
The GT3-R project involved extensive re-engineering of almost every component. The 4 litre V8 engine featured a 10% power increase to 572bhp with blueprinted turbos, lower gearing greatly increases responsiveness, stiffer springs, anti-roll bars and dampers feature as do ceramic brakes, the front discs being the largest fitted to a road car at that time. Further weight reduction of 100kg came from extensive use of carbon fibre, note the beautifully formed interior door panels, lightweight sports seats and rear seat delete. Even the road wheels are a special lightened version.
The GT3-R was sold out in the UK long before the first car had entered the production line, customers were carefully selected, and only white or black coachwork was available. This example is the only one in the UK that isn't white or black, being uniquely finished in Anthracite Grey owing to the persistence of its first owner, a very loyal Bentley customer and marque enthusiast. The colour suits the GT3-R concept perfectly and matches well with the optional Mulliner Beluga and Mandarin interior. This car was further optioned to a high and desirable specification with the carbon fibre engine finisher, Jewel fuel filler cap, TV tuner, carbon fibre sill plates and light smoked window tints. The original invoice on file shows a final price of £262,127.
The car was ordered when new from Jack Barclay London and this first owner retained it until 2023 covering just 2,000 miles in this period. Despite the lack of use it was maintained perfectly with annual servicing as per schedule being completed by the owners local Bentley dealer, Bentley Leicester. As noted in the original stamped service book and detailed in invoicing.
In 2023 the Bentley was bought by the second owner, a true enthusiast with a notable car collection of exceptional quality. He has doubled the mileage in the last two years to 4,000 miles and has continued to maintain it correctly with servicing at the Bentley Crewe factory and at Jack Barclay from whom it returned recently. Again, service stamps and invoices confirm work completed.
Today this unique bespoke Bentley in the best British tradition remains in unmarked order throughout in all respects with no evidence of wear, the driving experience confirming this ‘as new feel’. It has covered just 4,000 miles in the hands of two careful owners, has a full history and comes with everything.
