Step back in time with this beautifully preserved 1950 Morris Minor Lowlight, a true icon of post-war British automotive design. Finished in an elegant period-correct hue, this early "Lowlight" model features the distinctive low-set headlights, split windscreen, and flowing fenders that set it apart from later variants.
No nut or bolt was left untouched in the comprehensive four-year restoration, which brought this British classic back to its former glory and beyond. Every mechanical, structural, and cosmetic element was meticulously restored or sourced to factory-correct specifications. The result? A Lowlight that not only turns heads, it commands respect among the most discerning collectors, featured on the front cover of Minor Matters and in Classic and Sports Car Magazine.
Between 2016 and 2020, this 1950 Morris Minor Lowlight underwent a meticulous, body-off restoration to Concours standard, with great care taken to retain as much of the original vehicle as possible. The body and underside were stripped, repaired to factory specifications, and finished in professional black two-pack paint—applied on a rotisserie—resulting in an underside as flawless as the exterior. The chassis and cavities were fully treated with rust-inhibiting wax to ensure long-term preservation.
Mechanically, the car was completely rebuilt. The original engine was chemically cleaned, re-bored, and fitted with new pistons, bearings, and a reground crankshaft. Unleaded fuel compatibility was achieved through hardened valve seats. The gearbox, rear axle, and prop shaft were stripped and refinished, while ancillary components such as the carburettor, distributor, radiator, and braking system were fully rebuilt or reconditioned using original parts. A new wiring loom with discreet indicators was installed, alongside refurbished trafficators and lighting.
Inside, a new Newton Commercial interior was fitted, including refurbished seat frames, period-correct carpets, and a union cloth headlining. Attention to detail continued with nickel-plated handbrake fittings, re-chromed brightwork, powder-coated wheels with hand-painted pinstripes, and correctly sized cross-ply tyres. Even small details, such as reconditioned dials, a period-correct battery, and a refurbished original toolkit.
This Morris Minor has been a consistent high-placer at Morris Minor Owners Club national events, and proudly achieved Masters Class status—an elite recognition reserved only for the finest examples in the country. It has garnered top scores in Concours judging and stands as one of the best-restored Lowlights in the UK.
Whether you're a serious collector or an enthusiast seeking a proven show winner, this 1950 Lowlight offers an unmatched blend of rarity, provenance, and perfection. A true jewel of post-war British motoring - book a viewing today - our coffee pot is always hot!
