CATERHAM 7 1800CC CROSSFLOW - 2 OWNERS, HUGE HISTORY FILE

Originally built by a dear friend of mine and with the second and last owner enjoying an amazing thirty-one years of ownership, C7 XFW is presented in a genuinely outstanding condition and with the benefit of a huge folder of ownership history, documenting every piece of, not inconsiderable, expenditure bestowed upon it over the years.
Supplied as a complete kit to a self-confessed petrol head in East Yorkshire, the vehicle was first ordered (from me, whilst working at Caterham Cars) on 27th October 1989 with delivery not taking place until 9th August 1990. The most meticulous of builds was then commenced with every single step carefully documented in a hand-written diary that is still present with the vehicle. Milestones in the build included firing it up for the first time and a maiden drive in May 1991, when the vehicle was first registered.
Three years later, and ‘Katy’ was returned to Caterham Cars in part exchange for another (faster) kit, so that the owner could start the build process again. The current owner, having already made multiple journeys to Surrey in search of his ideal car, was immediately struck by the outstanding condition and build quality of this vehicle and, concluding a long search, the deal was done.
The huge specification includes…
Heater
Increased visibility weather equipment
Tonneau cover
FIA approved rollover bar
Ignition cut-out switch
Leather adjustable seats
4-point harnesses
Oil cooler
15” ‘Prisoner’ wheels – polished
Advan Neovo AD08R tyres
Side exit exhaust
Private plate – C7 XFW – Caterham 7 X-FloW
Owner’s manual
Comprehensive build diary
Roll on to 1999, and with 19767 miles recorded, it is time for an engine refresh so the services of crossflow engine guru Roger King are sought. Renowned in Caterham circles for superb performance and reliability, Roger’s engines are genuinely considered to be the best. After careful consultation, a sensible road specification is decided upon, to include boring to 1800cc, with sensible internal upgrades being applied, and comprehensively documented on Roger’s invoice. Following a careful period of running in, a rolling road session revealed a healthy 154bhp at 6450 revs (graph on file). The rebuilt engine has, therefore, completed a mere 10250 miles.
The aforementioned history file shows regular and sensible maintenance along the way, by recognised Caterham specialists, including the addition of…
Lithium battery
Wosp 50 amp lightweight alternator
Wind deflectors
AP Racing brake kit
Heater rebuild
The file also includes all previous MOT certificates and two sets of keys.
Current recorded mileage is just 31000 and the MOT certificate is valid until May 2026.
So, in conclusion, an outstanding example and most definitely a future classic. With just two owners from new and wanting for nothing.
