The Targa 4S is iconic, it is the most versatile 911 made by Porsche and also has a unique style, with the chrome strip above the side windows. At the touch of a button, the glass roof opens electrically, providing the best of open air driving and Coupe convenience. The rear window opens as a hatch via the key remote, giving full access to the storage area behind the rear seats. The only 911 hatchback! 1 of just 138 in the UK, a very rare 911 model. This is a late production 997.2, produced in May 2011, in the most desirable colour combination Triple Black, Basalt Black Metallic Paintwork, Extended Black Leather Interior with Contrast Silver Stitching, Black Leather Rooflining. The 911 Targa 4S comes fitted with the rear mounted 3.8 litre flat-six Direct Fuel Injection DFI engine that produces 385bhp and propels the all-wheel drive supercar to 60mph in under 4.4 seconds and on to a 188mph top speed. The 997 generation 2 cars do not suffer all of the problems of early 997 generation 1 cars, including IMS bearing failures, RMS leaks and Borescoring, all of these issues were eradicated by Porsche when they designed the all-new direct fuel injection DFI 911 engines for the generation 2 997s.

Background

Production of the second generation 997 series 911 Targa 4S began in 2009, it featured an all new engine with Direct Fuel Injection DFI which is mounted 10mm lower in the car, revised suspension system, new front bumper with larger air intakes, LED rear and front daylight running lights, all new Porsche Communication Management PCM System with touchscreen, hard drive navigation and Bluetooth.

Exterior

Our hand selected Porsche 911 Targa 4S looks stunning in its metallic coat of Basalt Black, a striking colour for the 997.2, especially with the red strip reflector on the rear of the wider bodyshell. The 19-inch Turbo I lightweight alloy wheels are diamond cut with Agate Grey barrels and are the perfect contrast to the paintwork. The 911 Targa 4S has been machine polished and waxed with Autofinesse Soul Carnauba Wax by us, which will help protect the paintwork and repel surface contaminants. All the trim has a perfect finish, as do the front and clear rear lights, which are free from any damage. The windows drop as they should when you open the door. The engine and boot struts also operate as they should. The glass Targa roof operates as it should, as does the soft-close rear hatch.

Interior

The 2-way Electric Leather Seats come with the optional 2-stage heating, and just like the rest of the leather interior, are in excellent condition and provide a perfect pairing to the Basalt Black bodywork. There are numerous options that enhance the Targa 4S further over other examples including Sport Design steering wheel with full size PDK shift paddles and the Sport Chrono Package Plus dashboard mounted stopwatch. There are no major marks or signs of wear to any of the trim, panels or switchgear, with the leather retaining a wholly fresh appearance throughout.

Engine and Transmission

Our 911 Targa 4S is equipped with the 3.8 litre flat six DFI engine, which addressed all previous weaknesses of the 996 and 997 first generation engines. The 911 Targa 4S engine produces 385bhp and 310ft-lb of torque. The axle load distribution of approximately 40:60 ensures high directional stability and superb road behaviour. The engine starts cleanly when cold or hot, there is no smoke whatsoever either at startup or when driving. There are no unusual sounds or rattles when the engine is running. Our 911 Targa 4S is equipped with the highly desired switchable sports suspension system, which includes the dashboard switch that stiffens the suspension in an instant, increasing connection to the road. The Targa 4S is also fitted with Sport Chrono Package Plus, which adds a SPORT and SPORT PLUS button that sharpen the throttle response, decreases shift speeds, hold gears for longer and blips the throttle on downshifts whilst also adding a dashboard mounted stopwatch to add to the sporting image of the T4S.

The optional 7-speed double-clutch PDK transmission system provides instant changes, unleashing the power of the engine with minimal fuss. Because it has been specified in combination with Sport Chrono Package Plus, it unlocks additional shift speeds in both SPORT PLUS and LAUNCH CONTROL modes. These modes are only available with these options selected from the factory along with PDK. They enable the Targa 4S to respond and accelerate faster than the standard car, reducing the in-gear acceleration and the headline 0-60mph time by 0.4 seconds to just 4.5 seconds.

Another addition is the exceptional Porsche Switchable Sports Exhaust PSE which significantly improves the sound of the 911 on any journey, without being too loud or intrusive.

Wheels, Tyres and Brakes

Our 911 Targa 4S comes fitted with the optional 19-inch Turbo I Lightweight Alloy Wheels which are diamond cut with Agate Grey metallic barrels. They are in great original condition. The brakes are phenomenal, with factory Guards Red callipers and PORSCHE lettering in white, cross drilled and vented discs front and rear with plenty of life left in them. The tyres are Pirelli P-Zero Porsche N2 rated high performance tyres with plenty of tread all round.
