1955 LAND ROVER SERIES ONE

Motodrome offer this 1955 Land Rover Series 1 86in soft top.

Finished in bronze green with a windowed sand coloured tilt, and fitted with the usual 3 seats in the cab

Fitted with a matching set of Goodyear 650x16 tyres, the correct Series 1 2.0 petrol engine, freewheel front hubs, bonnet mounted spare wheel, and rear muflaps.

This one has the most wonderful provenance. An original UK RHD example, it was originally registered as ‘KAP 59’, and seems to have spent most, if not all, it’s life, in Cornwall.

We have a large history file, bills, and written correspondence back to the mid 1970’s showing a Mr Osbourne of Saltash certainly had owned it for a long time even then. He possibly had it from new, but, having sold the original number plate in the 1990’s, this used to confuse DVLA.

But maybe not in this case, as the V5 shows just 2 previous owners, which would tally with Mr Osbourne owning it from new.

It then passed to another owner in Cornwall in 2007, who only kept it for a year before selling it to the last owner in 2008, who’s also based in Cornwall.

The odometer shows 89000 miles, but given the 1970’s correspondence shows a request for parts for the odometer cogs, this may not be entirely correct, so we’re selling it as mileage presumed incorrect’ to avoid any misunderstandings.

History highlights include an engine rebuild in 1999, the bulkhead being rebuilt (by a Land Rover main dealer) in 2010, and the bodywork restored and externally repainted in 2011

I can confirm it drives exactly as it should, with excellent steering (helped by being on the correct size tyres) and brakes. It starts on the button and performs very well indeed.

To sum up, it’s a very correct mid-period Series 1 that can hold it’s head up anywhere. And get you there, and more importantly back, again. And it’ll doubtlessly know it’s way around Cornwall if it goes back there.
