Right then, the Mazda MX-5 RF Convertible 2.0 Sport Nav+a car that, if Im honest, should come with a warning label. It should say: Warning: May cause excessive grinning and a tendency to find any excuse to drive somewhere. Finished in a particularly fetching shade that lets people know youre not a complete bore, this little machine is the absolute antithesis of dull. Under the bonnet, youve got a 2.0-litre engine producing a very respectable 184 horsepower. This is the sort of power that, on paper, sounds like it might get you into trouble. But it wont. Why? Because its not about the powerits about the way the power is delivered. Its nimble, its responsive, and it will have you flinging it through corners like youre in the middle of a road-rage-induced chase scene in an action movie. And the best part? It doesnt even have to try that hard. The RF stands for Retractable Fastback, which sounds terribly technical, but essentially it means you can transform this car from a coupe to a convertible with the touch of a button. Yes, its a little gimmicky, but frankly, I dont care. The roof goes down, the suns out, and suddenly, youre a more interesting person. Its like a bit of magic. Inside, youre greeted by all the Nav+ nonsense, which includes things like a touchscreen, a decent sound system, and, of course, the ability to pretend youre someone who actually knows where theyre going. In reality, youll probably just be using it to listen to the glorious sound of the engine as you drive through beautiful, winding roads. And why not? This car has a slightly ridiculous charm to it. Its not the fastest. Its not the most luxurious. But if you want something that will make you feel alive every time you get in it, this is it. The Mazda MX-5 RF is all about having fun. And thats something we could all do with a bit more of, wouldnt you agree?
