Description

I am sitting here questioning my sanity whilst writing this ad!!
I am having to sell my beloved Boxster that I have spent a long time replacing every single little or big thing that can go wrong with these cars.
I wanted, in my opinion, the most desirable Boxster 986, A Guards Red 3.2 S Facelift Manual with Heated Seats, 18" Carrera Alloys, Black Leather with Porsche Crests, PSM, and computer.
I know your looking at the price and wondering why this one is not £7000 or so then let me explain.
If you do buy yourself one at £7000 or even a lot more, then you WILL I promise in 99% of cases need to spend at least £6000 getting it to even half of what this one is like to drive and replace the things that will need addressing.
I have spent £11,000 on this car and my plan was to make it drive as if it just drove out of the factory.
Let me explain this car's story.

At 95,000 in 2019
I wanted one that had already had the IMS Bearing replaced.
at 95,246 this was done by David Phillips Porsche Specialist with a new Clutch and RMS at the same time (receipt to prove)
Service done at the same time
At 97,000 in 2021 (Just before I bought it)
4 x New Michelin Pilot Sports fitted.
New Air Oil Separator (AOS)
It had a squeaky front coffin arm (suspension arm) over bumps so decided to put it on axle stands and take a look.
It was then I realised I should really do all 4 coffin Arms then it snowballed into replacing every single nut , bolt and fastener underneath including undertrays!
All Genuine Porsche stuff from Design 911.
I found out that all the bolts snap as they are steel bolts in aluminium threads and they fuse so these were all removed properly by an engineering company.
Every part underneath will be seized solid if these have not been recently replaced
Here is what I replaced at 97k starting the work in January 2022
All New Coffin Arms and all other suspension Arms
New Outer Track Rod Ends
New Inner Track rod ends
Wheel hubs stripped, shotblasted and painted then new wheel bearings pressed in x4
New Backing plates
New Bilstein B4 Shocks, Top Mounts, Bump Stops x4
New Anto Roll Bar Bushes x4 (Polybushed)
New Anti Roll bar Drop Links x4
Shot blasted and painted anti roll bars x2
New Braided Brake Hoses
New Brake Lines
New OEM Brembo Discs and pads x4
New Rebuilt calipers with seals
New 911 GT3 Brake ducts that make the brakes cool better
New Brake Pad wear indicators
New ABS Sensors
New Handbrake mechanism & Shoes etc
New handbrake cables
New Quickshift Shifter (Much shorter throw better feel)
Wheels refurbished and new wheel nuts and centre caps
No Rust found but all underneath grime and muck cleaned off and freshly painted so all red underneath.
All Mountings and support bars are powder-coated
Every nut and bolt replaced with genuine porsche items also used Alu-Slip to stop them from seizing again.
I also had fitted Direnza Lowered Springs by about 30mm at the time of doing the shocks etc.
Cost Of all this £6500
The car was then sent to Revolution Porsche in October 2022 for;
Full Service
New coolant
New Revised V4 Coolant Cap
Inspect Water Pump as precaution , All okay
All new Belts
4 Wheel laser Alignment to set all new suspension
Cost of all this £1100
It then developed a blow from the exhaust manifolds in 2024
Now anyone who owns one of these cars will tell you the studs holding the manifolds in will seize and snap so this was another trip to Revolution Porsche and sure enough this is what happened to 2 of the bolts when they were doing this.
I decided to future proof so had bolts replaced with Studs and brass nuts like it should have had in the beginning.
I also bought stainless manifolds for the car at the same time and also bought new 02 Sensors
Cost At Revolution Porsche
£1475.63
Plus £350 For manifolds and £200 for 02 Sensors
It was mistake to lower the car, I decided that I was going to return it to standard height so in 2024 I had the Springs changed to standard and then took it to get another 4 Wheel laser alignment done, now it felt perfect on the country roads.
At the same time I had it serviced and fitted new Hydraulic Engine Mounts
Cost £250 For Service work
£220 For Mounts
£272.40 For Springs
Total £742.40
One thing bugged me though, there seemed to be a slight flat spot during acceleration, not much but enough to bug my ocd!
I then had it serviced but also had the Spark Plugs replaced along with all 6 coil packs from design 911 to OEM spec
The flat spot was still there!
So in Early 2025 I decided to get it remapped by Celtic Tuning as these guys are renowned for doing a great job on the 986 and lots of other people have given great feedback.
Thsi puts the car at 280 so only 20 bhp more but better torque and driveability and wow this made a huge difference but still a nagging doubt was it could be better.
Cost £350
So read up on MAF Sensor and decided to replace that, since it was the final part I could possibly replace!
So New MAF sensor ordered and fitted
Cost £220
And WOW!
The car finally drove as I imagined it to be!
It drives like a new car and obviously feels tight as a drum.
I have never driven it in the wet since all this work was done and has only covered about 1700 dry miles since.
Mot with no Advisories until May 2026
Private Number not included
£11,000 for 1700 Miles, I need to close my eyes!
However, my loss is your gain. I suggest you go and drive another Boxster, whether that's a 987 or any 986, then come and drive this one. I would absolutely bet that mine drives better and is one for someone to keep, as I was going to do.
A business opportunity means this and a few of my other cars have to go now.
Please don't make any offers, this car needs only one thing and that's the Aircon if you want A/C, it has never worked and I don't care as I have the roof down when I use it, so not something I investigated.
If you can find a better car for this money, then please go and buy it. I am in no rush to sell. I am trying to find another way to raise the funds, and if I do, this will be taken off sale, so if you're serious, then be serious.
If you know your Porsches, then you will know what this is and what it has had done, and it is a complete bargain in my eyes.
Sorry for the long winded advert but this car deserves you to know what it is.
