Background

The Caterham R400K has an almost legendary status in Caterham circles. Perfectly combining the uncompromising Superlight chassis with the very lightweight and revvy K series VHPD engine on roller barrel throttle bodies and the superb Caterham 6 speed close ratio gearbox, the R400K is viewed by many enthusiasts as arguably the best car Caterham has ever produced. Indeed in 2002 an R400 (driven by a certain Chris Harris) won its class at the Nurburgring 24hr race by over 10 laps, and was subsequently banned from racing by the ADAC!

The model name and number plate (included in the sale) reflects the legendary power to weight ratio of the car and the savage performance that comes with it…400bhp per ton!

I bought this car in 2022 as my second Caterham, having decided that doing all of the upgrades I wanted to on my existing Roadsport was going to be a very costly and complex exercise compared to buying a highly desirable car with the dream specification already there from new. In my ownership the car has done some touring, one single track day, some car shows, the Fish & Chip run and even a couple of school runs! However having got into the one and only thing that has more than two wheels and can get cross country faster than this car (an aeroplane…), and with the fact that the car has only done about 4000 miles during my ownership, it’s time to reluctantly move on and let someone else enjoy this incredible machine.

This car is a genuine R400 (not an upgraded and re-badged R300 as many are) and is well known in the UK Caterham scene. With supercar slaying performance, a modern and highly desirable paint job, some subtle upgrades and a few nods to comfort and practicality too, it really is a superb example of this sought-after Caterham with an incredible specification. It also comes with a number of spares and additions, and as can be seen from the photos, is in fabulous condition.

If you intend to take this car on track you will need the Reverie carbon airbox currently fitted to the car, and the Raceco track silencer/collector in order to pass noise limits. If these are not required, I will adjust the price down by £1000.00 accordingly.

I also have a very extensive selection of accessories, decat pipe, aeroscreen, half doors, various shower caps/half hood, mirrors, SBFS touring bags, intercoms, storage covers etc etc. These are available separately however I will give the car buyer first refusal.
