The Sterrato is one of those rare modern supercars that feels accidental in the best way. Conceived quietly within Lamborghini’s engineering team as a playful experiment and first shown as a concept in 2017, it lingered as a curiosity until market appetite helped by cars like the 911 Dakar convinced Lamborghini to greenlight a limited run of 1,499 units.

At its core, the Sterrato remains a Huracán but one beautifully re-engineered for loose surfaces. Think gravel rally and you’ve found the sweet spot. The engine from the Huracan means 602bhp from the glorious 5.2-litre V10 … more than enough for spinning all-four tyres on dirt. Launch it on tarmac and you’ll cover 0-62mph in 3.4 seconds and hit the limiter at 160mph.

The engineering brief wasn’t extreme off-roading, but you get new specially reinforced front and rear bumpers and side skirts, a front skid plate and underbody armour that does what it says on the tin. Bonnet mounted spotlights bring the RAC rally vibes and match the wheel arches with their purposefully crude exposed bolts.

Ride height is increased by 44mm and there’s 25 per cent more wheel travel at the front, 35 per cent at the rear. The Sterrato rides on bespoke, chunky-treaded all-terrain Bridgestone Dueler tyres on 19-inch wheels front and back fill the arches nicely, and they’re run flats, giving you a fighting chance if you go pop in the middle of nowhere.

The Sterrato’s brilliance lies not in outright performance, indeed it’s slower and softer than other Huracáns but in how it delivers speed. On loose surfaces, it becomes adjustable and tail-happy, with Rally mode encouraging controlled slides while retaining a safety net. On tarmac, it feels less razor-sharp but more alive, trading precision for character.

In essence, the Sterrato reframes the Huracán from a point-and-shoot weapon into something closer to a modern Group B fantasy, a car you drive with attitude rather than accuracy and as a result, it stands as one of the most compelling modern Lamborghinis - not despite its absurdity, but because of it.
