This is an honest, usable Land Rover I've enjoyed owning for 9 years with regular maintenance and TLC from a local Land Rover specialist.
It has been used for local runs to pick up Christmas trees, taking rubbish to the tip, and driving across fields to the horses. This is not a restored, immaculate car - it has marks, scuffs, and general wear of a car that is 53 years old. The previous owner touched up the paint so its a bit of a patch work.
Runs and drives as you'd expect for a car that is 53 years old. This is not a modern car! It is comfortable at 40mph with max speed 55mph. Steering is typically vague and brakes are old-fashioned - all period correct! Low range and 4WD levers both work. Handbrake holds the car.
The front seats have been replaced with more modern seats to make it more comfortable (originals are included). The heater works. All lights work. Horn works. 240v power inverter is fitted to the dashboard. A second electric radiator fan was fitted with a thermostat dial on the dashboard which is useful on hot days.
In the last 12 months it had £1,000 spent including a new exhaust, new fuel pump, new spark plugs, all fluids changed and a full health check. Completed by Oak Tree garage, a Land Rover specialist near Harpenden in Hertfordshire.
The previous owner was a Land Rover mechanic and carried out a full recommission in 2015 at his home garage and pit, which he proudly showed me around when I bought the car. There are invoices for a new steering box, prop shaft, handbrake linkage, wheel bearings, brake drums, fuel tank, cooler header tank, clutch master cylinder, thermostat, sound deadening, waxoil rust proof, and lots of hoses, clips, bolts, hinges, and fasteners.
He gave me a significant amount of spare parts with the car , including the original front seats, additional rear seats, interior trim, spare wheels and lots of mechanical parts. Happy to pass them on to the next owner included in the sale.
With regular maintenance and tinkering, this should continue to bring joy for many decades.
