Description
January 1969 ex '35FG65' (Original reg number) 268 miles showing on new dials. Bronze Green. First bought into service in 1969 and re-registered for civilian use in 1979. From its Army Record card, the car went to the Central Vehicle Depot in Irvine for a few months before it moved to CVD Hilton until 1973. The next four years were with The Maritime Wing School of Transport until it spent its final couple of years with the military at The Army School of Mechanical Transport. The History then goes a little quiet until 2014 when the current owner took collection of the car from a farm in The Isle of Wight and spent 8 years finding as many new (old stock) parts as he possibly could culminating in the restoration being completed in 2022. There is a Plaque in the engine bay stating 'Whymark & Whymark 2022 and www.lrparts.com' (See photos) Only 268 miles have been covered since the restoration and the car is in the same condition now as it was then. The 1969 Land Rover Lightweight (Series IIA 'Air-Portable') for British Forces was primarily fitted with a 2.25 litre four cylinder petrol engine. The 1969 model is recognised as the Series IIA 'Air-Portable,' featuring redesigned removable body panels for easy transport . They were widely used by the Royal Marines, RAF, and Royal Navy.
