Hi There. I picked this up from our friends at Al Jazeera and thought it might be illustratetive of how the Israelis will "control" Gaza when they have finished mauling it.

Hamas are a stain on the planet, but you can see why in general Palestinians are pissed. You look at the state of Gaza now and there is zero chance Palestinian civilians will be happy with any outcome - the wider world will be happy if Hamas is obliterated, but the average Palestinian on the ground will look around at their destroyed homes and won't be thanking Israel.https://interactive.aljazeera.com/aje/2024/israel-...
I don't have a solution, but I feel like this has just turned smoldering embers into a full on petrol covered bonfire in the region for many many years to come.
Hope this is OK in this thread as it's about the issue in general rather than about the TV show. It could also have been in the Trump thread though.
Watched this just now and it was concerning: https://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/m001z96s/sto...
It's about the power and influence of American Evangelical Christians, their influence on US government and therefore on foreign policy, especially in the middle east. I'm not getting too hooked up on the Armageddon prophecy element but it does show how many people feel they have nothing to lose from warfare and might positively welcome it. Another reason to fear Trump - does that man actually give a monkey's about God or Jesus anyway?

The only thing Trump cares about is Trump and being the centre of attention. He is somewhat of a narcissist in my opinion. He wouldn't care if the entire Middle East went up in flames, just so long as he remanined "popular" in the US.

The West Bank, nothing new, just getting worse. Might be an eye opener for the pro Israeli's.

Just unintentionally seen the video of the Palestinian holding his young child in his arms. He turns and then you see that the child's skull is empty. I've never experienced the emotions that followed.
I don't care who/what/why. This needs to be stopped. Now.
Agreed.I don't care who/what/why. This needs to be stopped. Now.
It won't be, however, because factions will cite racist behaviours by some.

I agree it should be stopped. I agree it won't be, at least not in the short term. I don't agree that not stopping will be because factions will cite racist behaviours by some. Instead I think it won't stop because not enough people in positions of power on either side want it to stop. It won't be, however, because factions will cite racist behaviours by some.
Instead, Netanyahu is fixated on his "total victory" over Hamas, whilst Hamas leaders (well away from the danger zones ) don't care how many Palestinians are killed collaterally so long as they can at least kill a few more Jews. Netanyahu needs to go, and someone needs to be able to speak for the Palestinians other than Hamas.

It wouldn't just be that. Both sides are just not prepared to accept what would be acceptable for the other and that's something that cuts right across both societies and not just their leaders whether Netanyahu or Hamas. https://www.nytimes.com/2024/05/16/opinion/israeli...
pretty much spells out the issue per the various polling in Israel who as by far the stronger party effectively holds the whip hand in determining what may or may not happen.
