Is anyone using www.lookaftermybills.com? (as advertised on TV)?

I'm with Scottish Power until September and can't wait to leave as they've done nothing but cock up my account.

Ta!

Yes, I started with them a couple of months back, and the switching really was as painless as they say.

According to their estimates I will save £736 over the year (this is gas and electric) so we’ll see.

The only downside for me was that they couldn’t link up to my smart meter, so I have to give them readings manually, but it’s hardly a big deal. (And in fact I have just received an email from them saying they are working on this, and may be able to connect with certain meters soon)

If you are thinking of joining drop me a pm and I’ll send you a link which wins both of us a £20 gift card cool

I'm presuming rather than using something like Martin Lewis's cheap energy club which tells you when you are paying too much and you decide whether to swap or not, this does it for you automatically? Would you not be worse off as I'm presuming you won't get any cashback from swapping (like you do normally).

You're possibly not comparing apples with apples, since LAMB doesn't claim to swap you to the cheapest available deal, but to a "fair deal from suppliers we trust". So it's possible that Martin Lewis's site could recommend something cheaper anyway, regardless of cashback or other incentives.

Thanks guys, especially Mr Panda and his offer which is defo on the table if it happens.

I'm not after the absolute lowest price, I'm after a reliably good price which will be hassle-free. I don't want to spend hours/days online every years trying to get £5 on a cashback offer, neither do I want to take my own meter readings and log in to a website every month. No smart meter. Certainly no DD because I read too many posts here saying how they go wrong. In fact, I much prefer it like it used to be - get the services for a quarter, get a bill, pay the bill. Simples!

I think you’re looking for a time machine rather than electric supplier!

I have been using them almost from the beginning and it seems to work pretty well - certainly has saved me some money. There were a few hiccups when the original owners got bought out (with Dragons netting a few bob no doubt!) but it continues OK. Communicating with them has sometimes been a bit tricky but I have had no need to do that recently. Do not have a smart meter but the new generation are said to be alright and do not hinder switching. So far I have been with 4 different energy companies - currently Peoples Energy.

Ah yes, imagine everything being simpler and cheaper - how amazing that would be!

When I tried getting a quote their website let me get halfway then said I was fraudulent, or words to that effect. So I e-mailed them and they said use the incognito window. No, I was still fraudulent. So they said I'd have to phone them. Reply speed has been good but it's not been a good start. How much effort should I need to put into giving a company my money?

Tried them as I was coming up to the end of dual fuel contract with BG, they came up with something which wasn't that great; circa £180 saving over a year vs bigger savings on the comparison websites, I ended up staying with BG on a contract which will save me circa £230 over a year.

I rang them and asked to be removed, TBH I'd rather be in total control anyway.

You don't pay them anything - i think their business model gets something back from the energy company as commission. I am not sure that all the "special offers" are open to them either - but you have to hunt around for those. I am sure you can do perfectly well or even better doing it yourself - but using them saves a hassle and i don't have to worry about it. i am fundamentally lazy.....

They get a referral fee - same as the payments you can achieve yourself through items such as Quidco or Topcashback.
For switching utilities it's normal £20-40ish but there are some items such as switching broadband/phone/tv packages that pay £200 etc.

Way I see it if your always on top of it then you'll do better via the Qudico click through method, but if your not likely to be arsed to do it yourself then having a company select and switch you over will probably be better than sitting tight and doing nothing - just remember not to fall for the "save you x amount" figure as this is normally worked off the deal you would fall onto if you didn't switch and not a comparison between what you paid for the contracted 12months and what you'll pay for the new contract.

That is a very good point; SP for example would put be on their 'standard tariff' if I do nothing which is very expensive (as I discovered when they put me on it by mistake and the bills went bonkers).

As inferred above I would much prefer to go back to a central 'electricity board' where you have one fair price and pay for what you use. Every level of companies, directors, cashback, clickthroughs etc is just another level of profiteering which ultimately Joe Punter pays for somewhere somehow. The amount of time spent by people switching and wasted in arguing every year must be phenomenal.

I have just told LAMB where to stick their service. I cannot forgive them for transferring me to the catastrophically awful Together Energy.

I have ended up massively out of pocket, and I’m now expecting a fight to get TE to refund me the huge credit balance they’ve amassed in the six months I’ve been with them.

In that time TE have not sent me a single bill or statement, and have failed to provide me with login details for their web site. They never answer the phone - and that’s not an exaggeration, I really do mean never. And I’m not alone - TrustPilot has countless reviews giving the same story.

So the only option has been to manually switch myself back to Bulb and tell LAMB I no longer want their “help”.

I can’t trust LAMB any more if they’re switching people to a company with customer service that is well known to be atrocious.

So my advice is to avoid LAMB.

Been with them 2 years and just done second switch. I’m very happy and no issues whatsoever. I might be able to save a few extra quid if I put the work in but I’m all for an easy life.

yes This company makes it money through kickbacks from the supplier.

So their interest does not lie in getting you the best deal, but to get themselves the best deal whilst fulfilling their promise to make you a saving.

If you want to be passive, then its for you. But otherwise not necessarily...

How often does LAMB swap providers for you ? I use comparison sites and finding the best price then move over. You then enter into a certain contract time period, so I would imagine this must be the same for LAMB and the providers they sign you up too ?

LAMB must either get a kick back from providers or have a preferred list of providers they use ? So are these the best prices ?

Comparison sites are so easy nowadays so I dont know what the hard ship is ? Even if LAMB controls the swap over you still have to provide meter readings ?

If honest Im tired of seeing LAMB adverts all over Facebook, and other online media streams. That ginger haired guy, and the endless mention of dragons den.

Yes they get a kickback in exactly the same way the comparison sites do.
Yes the contract is exactly the same as you doing it or doing it through the comparison sites.
There is no hardship- some people can’t be bothered doing the comparison sites (me included) so let LAMB do it for me.

Do they?

Comparisons sites get kickbacks from a range of suppliers as the customer selects one.

Lookaftermybills will be negotiating periodically directly with suppliers based on transferring a large number of customers over to them. And the suppliers will be fighting amongst one another to clinch the deal so will offer accordingly.

I've been with them for ages, can't fault them.

They email me once a month, I submit a meter reading, and they email me my statement and bill in a day or two. If I have a large credit balance and want to transfer it out to my bank, one quick email and it's done. No mistakes, no hassle.

Having had the 'joy' in the past of experiencing Scottish Power and British Gas customer service, unless Octopus become a lot more expensive, I'm staying put. Plus, as you say, every time you refer someone you get £50. I've had £150 for that in the last twelve months alone.
