The Chinese Fairing Experience - Ducati 748

My Chinese fairings are arriving tomorrow for the 748, and I thought it might be of interest writing a detailed thread on my experience to maybe help people who are on the edge of taking the plunge. They won't be getting fitted until March, but I will keep this updated with fit / finish and general quality and hopefully accompanied with some decent photos 
So, Part 1:
I ordered the fairing kit on eBay on 14-Jan-2013 from the seller 'needformotos'. After a few back and forth emails (which were answered promptly and concisely) I had a best offer accepted for £205 + £69.99 p+p. The letter from Parcelforce came through on Saturday (16-Feb-2013) stating that I needed to pay my £28 import duty and that it will get delivered Tuesday.
This brings the total cost to £303.
Here is the picture from the eBay advert (took a risk as i have yet to see a 748 in these colours)
And here is the bike the colour scheme was taken from
Hopefully it will work with the lines of the 748 but i guess only time will tell

I put Chinese fairings on my old NC30 and they generally fitted okay and the paint was decent enough. Looked good for the money.
On the other hand my mate bought some for his ZXR400 and had a totally different experience. Paint smudges, wrong paint shade, noticeably so.. Worst of all, the front nose cone had no headlight fixing brackets at all so couldn't be fitted. They never replied after he told them this...
Hopefully you'll have an experience more like mine!!

I knew that was going to be mine before I clicked...I should really update that and say they've been alright on since all that. Paint seems fine and they still look ok so probably good for the money...
Part 2 - The Parts Have Arrived 
Box + Free Gifts
The box was large, and very light. All parts were individually wrapped in white polystyrene stuff.
In the listing it was described that there would be a free gift. Not expecting much I was actually pleasantly surprised.
Unexpected free self adhesive heat shield
And bolt kit (I wont be using but nice to get through) and carbon tank protector
Front Mudguard
The first part I opened. Really impressed with the quality and only when I put it in the sunlight noticed it has a metallic blue / green flek to the paint which matches the fairing lowers. I won't be using this as I have a carbon fiber one to go on, but it looks a good part with no paint defects.
Screen
Gloss black double bubble screen. The only part that has been finished nicely front and back, so at least they have given some thought to what you can see when fitted to the bike (but more on that later)
Nose
Another really well finished part but does have a little niggle. I have tried to get a photo of the quality of decals and paint finish. I will get better pictures when I have charge in my girlfriends camera but it gives an idea. The only issue I have is the poor paint finish on the internal surfaces, which will be seen when fitted to the bike, so I may give them a coat of black to neaten it up and cover the overspray.
And if you notice in the advert picture, it has '996' written on the nose. I requested to not have this writing and they duly obliged
Side Panels
A couple of tiny pieces of grit in the paint finish but overall I am very happy and the edges and lacquer look great.
V Piece
The only part I am not very happy with the finish on. You can see the sanding marks beneath the paint, but considering where it is on the bike I am not really fussed.
__Seat Unit_
A couple of minor defects, but nothing I am worried about really. It is a nice sturdy unit (I was worried it would be a bit flimsy) and came with all the mesh already installed (something other people have complained about). There is a slight sag in the white paint on the side (see picture) and the 'tricolore' decals are a bit crappy (i would have preferred them to be separate red letters stuck on a white background and then lacquered over). Its something I can easily live with though and i am just being picky for the sake of the thread and want to give a fair representation.
The only other thing is that i have been wondering how I will fit the rear light unit, so any suggestions would be appreciated as on the net not many people have detailed this part of the fitment.
Overall I am very happy and they are much better than I was expecting. Lets hope they fit well

to be completely honest, obviously depending on fitment but if you rode passed me with those panels id think it looks really smart and a decent job, buuuut to have them on my own bike id be too annoyed with the minor details, especially the tricolour badge/sticker thing.

I know what you mean but to be honest I really do think I can live with it. I think it would be foolish to want an absolutely perfect set of bodywork and expect it for £300, and considering the only real issue is a slightly wonky decal, i don't think its that bad.
For the money it means I can put the bike in a paint scheme I wanted (with a mono seat which would have cost a couple of hundred on its own for an original Ducati one!), and have them on the bike whilst the old fairings are being repaired.

That must be from the same company that do the Lucky Strike fairings with number 34 on the front to fit an R1 not sure what the racing relevance of "west" is to kawasaki but im liking this scheme they do,
That West scheme is just the old Sito Pons Honda squad's with a Ninja logo on
It does look good though.I'm liking the Ducati one too
I am actually about to order a set of pre painted fairings for my NC29 honda, they are about £400 all in but the seller has good feedback and has responded quickly to a few questions i had.
Heard good experiences about a lot of these companies now, i am not expecting miracles but a clean and tidy job will suffice.
Your panels look good and its an interesting schemem to see on the older Dukes
