Not sure if this belongs in News, Sports or TV forum.

Sad news today that former wrestler Mick McManus died this morning at the age of 93...

http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/wrestling/22622647

talkSPORT had Frank Rimer on earlier, the organiser of the British Wrestlers Reunion and he painted a sad picture of Mick. Once the villain of 1970's TV wrestling, Mick lost his wife to cancer in January and went downhill after that. Last few weeks, he was in a home and refused to speak or meet anyone, the death of his wife really hit him hard. Passed away after slipping into a coma.

RIP Mick.

My gran used to watch this stuff every saturday afternoon, with Kent Walton.

She loved it, sitting their with her crochet, and her afternoon cocoa, shoutng "rip his fking head off."

Happy days.

Happy memories - Haystacks, Crabtree, McManus, Kendo Nagasaki all introduced with the words 'Welcome grapple fans'.

IIRC the commentator was a WWII bomber pilot.

Mick McManus was always the villain.

Another one gone...

Yup, great memories, I seem to remember that someone said it was quite fortunate to have the wrestling just before the footie scores, helped with the figures no end.

Mum soon learned not to give Dad his Saturday dinner until AFTER the wrestling, or it would end up being scattered to the 4 winds as Dad used to get a bit 'in there with them'. i used to have mats round especially, they thought it was hilarious. To this day, when I see reruns of the wrestling it makes me think back

Jackie pallo spilled the beans for those that hadn't already guessed that the wrestling game here was just as rigged as the US..if you think about it, it would have to be rehearsed, or they'd be breaking their necks every week.

Shame he faded after losing his wife - not such a villain after all, eh?

RIP Mick (and a nod to Pop)

As an under 10 year old at the time, I thought it was all real. Most of us did didn't we?

I think how street smart/cynical my own kids are to how I was at their age.
