Experiances with Dave F Kit

Not seen any posts about Dave F damaging MAF sensors ~ only seen complements on the forums. I've got a Simota kit on my EVO and am very pleased so far. 8 extra hp on the rolling road, sounds the business and filter element isn't oiled so little chance of MAF damage.

Any oil based air filter may damage your MAF. I ran one in my Evo for about 18months with no detrimental effect to running.
What I noticed with them was that I got much better pickup and initial acceleration in 1st gear owing to the heat shrowding and cold air feed from the brake duct pipe that was added.
Without it the hot air from the engine bay being sucked straight in caused a small amount of delay.
The noise is also quite good

fantastic bit of kit. I've heard talk of oil coated filters damaging MAF but having been a member of e36coupe.com for years I've yet to hear of problems on the evo. DaveF is a regular there too.

From what I can see the Dave F kit is a very simple affair; K & N induction kit and some homemade bolt in multi piece heat insulated air box,...am I missing something?
I do not mean to make the kit sound like toot, it just seems to me that because folks out there have an 'M' car, spending more on a kit of easily manufactured parts is for some reason preferable to doing the same yourself.

Well I'm going on the assumption that most individuals do not have the facility to press and cut steel sheets and or bend steel tubing. Hence why the kit is popular. Yes it is simple in its construction, but it works! I guess I am lucky that, to a certain degree, such situations do not pose a problem to me.I am a glazier/builder by trade and I once remember a mechanic friend of mine asking me how to build a garage. He seemed bamboozled when I went through it step by step with him and I was surprised that he had so much difficulty in getting his head around what I regard to be as easy as kiddies building blocks, LITERALY!
It was not until sometime latter when I visited him at his workshop and found him fabricating a chassis for a project of his and I thought 'wow, I wouldn't even know where to start!' that it dawned on me that each and everyone of us to their own

I am off to research an appropriate K & N filter kit and get me some ali sheet for the heat shield, I will let you know how I get on.
I have seen and tested the DaveF kit personally. I am real sceptic when it comes to intakes but this is very well made. It puts some kits from other companies to shame.
The quality of the heat reflective material is excellent and the pressed steel construction is very well done.
Intake temperatures have been tested be myself on this kit and they are as close to ambient temperatures as physically possible.
Power gains are real too.
The early kits were never that good but the ones people have been getting for last 2 years are very good.

So you think it is worth getting then? Not going to go ahead and order one just yet. Was just interested on getting as much info as possible on different things. Dave said himself it is just a K&N but the main part of his kit is the heatshield. Sounds like it keeps all hot air away from the kit. Also considering the M3 has the same airbox as a 316 it can only be good for the car changing this to an aftermarket option.You think?The quality of the heat reflective material is excellent and the pressed steel construction is very well done.

I've fitted one to my little chariot and am impressed with the quality of the heat sheild and `fit togetherness` of it all. Would have been really intresting to have tested my car before and after fitting to see if the gains are true to form - not that i doubt it at all. I don't really notice and gains in power as such apart from a glorious noise above 4k - probably sounds like your travelling faster than you actually are 
What i do know for certian is this - before fitterment i was getting a weeks worth of travelling to work out of a tank of fuel ~ circa 300 miles+. Now that the kit is fitted im getting about 260 miles to a tank. So if like me you really use your car i'd think seriously about fitting one.

Well the kit seems to get good enough ratings on here and on e36coupe. People are mentioning aboot sensors going but i think thats the case on all induction systems. Think im going to go ahead and order. Dave did mention he is getting 15 in next week so to get back to him then. Hows fitment by the way? As easy as it says? No drilling etc required?
