I noticed last week that my local Lidl has installed (to be opened soon) ovens and shelving for a fresh bakery. Does anyone have any experience of the produce sold hot? It's not something I've come across in Lidl before.

They've also started putting much of the wine on display in quaint wooden crates...

Just waiting for more sneaky price hikes now.
Prices have been creeping up. My favourite £5.99 Lidl chablis is now £7.49, for example.

However bread's still cheap despite the in-store bakery thingy. £1.49 for an 800g rye loaf. It's £1.85 in Waitrose for 500g.
I've noticed a few price rises of late, I posted about the Lidl bottled water from 19p to 29p a few pages back.

However I saw this tonight and thougt of you

I managed to pick some up with an extra 30% off with just over a week left on the label date too.
Thanks! I buy that. It keeps in the fridge for ages, despite what the sell-by date says.

It's £1.20 in Waitrose redface

Agreed! The West Country Mature Cheddar is lovely in sandwiches. A 250g pack only lasted me a few days!

Wow Taurus cider! 8 cans £4.99, tastes lovely - this stuff gets the dry/sweet levels spot on for me.

Giving the old Westons 8.2% gear a miss for a while - its not school night friendly!

Also those Magnum ice cream alikes 3 for £1 - bargain.

As far as supermarkets go this place is easier on the nearves, not as busy as Tesco etc and its great trying their good quality big brand alternatives.

Still getting fruit/veg/meat from Leeds market, how Tesco can charge what they do for Tomatos, Oranges, Chillies and Cherrys is crazy.

It's often cheaper at Sainsbury's when it's on offer at the deli counter.

ALDI FAIL:

BBQ with parents last night, being a Sunday the butchers was closed so mother gets Aldi top of range burgers, 4 in a packet, chilled. "Ashfield" iirc

fk me sideways were they fatty. Whacked em on the BBQ, within a couple of minutes that much fat/grease has oozed out that the base of the gas BBQ is puddled in it, promptly catches fire yikes

Had 2'-3' flames coming out of the BBQ scorching everything.

Never seen so much slime/grease/molten liquid fat come out of 4 burgers. Must've been a good bowl full.

Won't be touching them again!

Rest of the stuff from there was superb!

Our local Lidl has an instore bakery, lots of nice croissants, pain au chocolate/raisin very very good quality (almost as good as from france) and still cheaper than the ste from tesco.

I bought some of those, bloody horrible, binned them as they were so nasty. My first ALDI disaster.

That & the tramp cider ate our only real disasters.

Flames last night were a good 3ft high and the amount of fat leaving them was gargantuan

Lidl chocolate chunk american style cookies are wonderful. Just be careful opening the packet as it's quite easy to eat the whole lot.

Their individually packaged pain au chocolates are good for on the hoof breakfasts and are quite lovely heated up.

Oh and their salmon en croute is good too.

Tried the japanese rice crackers this weekend and was pleasantly surprised.

Another tip for the Lidlers: delicious bresaola at £1.99/80g. It's nearly double that in Waitrose.

Yes they're poor but the specially selected aberdeen angus burgers are very good.

The Aldi 'big eat' burgers (the wide but thin patty ones) are worth avoiding also. Dreadful.

Lidl's stem ginger cookies are rather yummy, look for them in a 'De Luxe' box. Be warned, they have a low dunk-threshold, they drop in your tea if dunked for more than a few seconds.

I agree and would also recommend the 'smoked black forest ham' and prosciutto. Generally i think the cured meats are the best thing about lidl
