Looks like a slightly melted Defender to me. Get your welding torch out.
True, but if we had a structurally sound Defender then none of this would be relevant! We need to replace the rusty Disco bodywork with something MOT-able, hence looking at the kit options.

this kit is for a disco, the idea is that it replaces the disco's rotting body work.

It's not cheap, though. Looking at the prices I think, unless I really needed it to be as light as possible, I'd be inclined to just buy a Disco that's wasn't rotting, easily possibly when you add the cost of an NCF kit to the value of a rotting one.

SC what are you saying man? Put your business hat on.

Your response should have been 'Kitcar...certainly sir, I can build that for you,

Well If you're not going to I will 'Kitcar...we can build that for you, what colour would sir like'

I tend not to get involved at the beginning of a kit car build, certainly no one has mentioned it to me yet. Must be nice for you guys assembling Ultimas from packages of new components. No, I tend to get involved when it's all gone wrong, or when the build has stopped, or got a bit complicated.

In most cases, though, I expect anyone wanting a kit build for them, from scratch, is going to approach the manufacturer first. That's why I would like to become a manufacturer, sell the kits for bread and butter, and do full builds for jam.

I think this is based on an unmodifed Discovery chassis so no IVA required. I recall reading about it months ago and it was due to be launched at one of the main kitcar shows this year (Stoneleigh?)but I can only assume that didn't happen as it was never mentioned in any of the post-show reviews I read. Action Automotive's web site has shown the status 'New Storm Warrior Thunderwagon is comming' for a few months now.

The Storm Warrior "Thunder Wagon" was first launched at the Stoneleigh kit car show in May 2014. It has been, featured in Complete Kitcar, Kitcar, and 4x4 magazine. In the coming months, "Thunder Wagon" will appear in, Land Rover International, and Total kitcar magazine. The pictures show the new, "Le Monstre" wide body kit.

Hey guys

I know this is an ooold thread but it is one of the top google results for "land rover kit cars" so I figured I'd revive it rather than start another.

I am wondering what options are still out there nowadays for Disco conversions, now that Defender prices have well and truly gone loopy a Disco 1/2 chassis with a light, rust free, simple, defender style body is looking more and more attractive.

Are many of the kit companies still about? And what part of the original Disco needs to be intact, I assume it's just the drivetrain and chassis. I have been offered a Disco 1 200tdi with the usual terminal body rust around the rear arches and in other parts where the body joins the frame.

What would be a realistic cost for one of these kits bodies, would wanting to retain at least 4 of my 7 seats be an unrealistic goal? The only kit I have seen that isn't a 2 seat pickup body is the Dakar 4x4 one which seems to be one of the most expensive around, and a bit overkill for my needs.

Finally, are the weight claims made by these companies true, they are quoting ~1500kg weights, an amazing ~500kg saving over the stock body.

Thanks for reading, hope someone is about who is involved in this market still who can help me out smile

Edit: another question would be: seeing as a new body on an unmodified frame shouldn't require an IVA, the V5 would still have the declared seating for 7 persons, what would stop you bolting a self fabricated roof and a small 2 or 3 seat bench into one of the pickup kits, similar to a Defender 90, 70s era safety would be enough in my mind for some occasional use seats. biggrin
